a keynote speech. two bills. two books. i'm kinda underwhelmed by obama.
i would have had a much harder time figuring out whether to vote for hillary or mccain. but i won't have a difficult time this election.
but i'll still give you a 10.

commentators do not persuade me.
and i don't think the democrats get to choose the republican vice president.

i like her. she's no nonsense, common sense. she's a fiscal conservative, works with independents and democrats and republicans. she's strong on ethics and honesty. and she's an action person.

the mccain team is an action team. i've had enough of a talk team.

i was feeling lukewarm on mccain. now i am strongly supporting the mccain ticket. i like the change/action team of mccain/palin. for me, the obama/biden team is ok, but not the best choice.

obama's ideas can be implemented at the legislative level. but i haven't seen much legislation for them so far. the president doesn't legislate, senators and representatives do.

palin is a good choice. mccain has always been an agent of change. he is his own man.

the democrats have been running against bush too long. it's about time that they figured out that this is an election and mccain/palin are worthy opponents.

i think the democrats counted on this election and now they can uncount on it.

biden might have the experience, but do you think obama's gonna listen to biden? obama already has his policies. he expects biden to endorse them. the policies travel from the top down, not from the bottom up.

i thought this was a great topic.
mccain stole obama's message of change. but he stole it from edwards anyway.
mccain has always been a messenger of change/reform. he has always been his own man. and his pick of palin proves it.

suddenly we have the doers (mccain/palin) and the talkers (obama/biden).

if you thought your candidate was gonna waltz right into the white house in a landslide, wouldn't you be upset if you suddenly found out that there will really be an election first?

they've been running against george bush too long. they will have to run against mccain now. and mccain's no pushover.

yeah, i have heard some democrats who were hoping for a hurricane.

i think the democrats should get their priorities straight.

obama wished the new orleans people well and hopes the federal government got it's act together about disaster preparedness.

mccain/palin went down there. the gop doesn't want to party on the big screen in front of them. there wasn't gonna be a temple of mccain anyway. nope, the gop will do their business and then see how they can help the people in the gulf, wherever the hurricane hits.

that's the difference.

the democrats (and republicans) will have to wait for mccain's explanation about why he picked palin.

i have aspergers too. i'm not positive that i am "so disabled" with it but i experience a lot of times when unexplained things happen to me. by "unexplained", i mean not logical.

i am not sure why "normal people" have such a difficulty in dealing with us. i don't think i lack empathy, so much as can't read social language, appear "aloof" to others because i don't engage in social conversation.

and i am not convinced that there is "treatment" for this.

a judge has thrown out the charges because the attorney general cannot proceed with them without consulting with the county district attorney. and the county district attorney told the judge that they were not willing to prosecute these charges.

everyone wants to "own" the vocabulary. that was what "cut and run" and "mission accomplished" were all about.

i would say that despite phrases we are at this point. the republicans had complained the democrats didn't have an iraqi policy and suddenly we find that the republicans don't have an iraqi policy.

so past phrases that your side has made up can be harmful to your cause.

in iran, the government doesn't represent the people. it represents the clerics, the ayatollah. the reformers sat out their election and ahmadinejad was elected. ahmadinejad ran on a reform campaign but he has not made any strides to reform it once he took office.

what are the iranian people going to do about their government? i don't know.
i know what we will do about our executive branch. we have an election every 4 years.

whether we should have gone into iraq is one question. but bush and gang made many policy mistakes with the occupation. the government was the largest employer but we somehow expected free enterprise to just pop up. we banned baathists from employment with the iraqi government. we handed out no-bid contracts but didn't require them to use iraqis to any great extent.

this insurgency might have been mitigated if they didn't make these policy mistakes.

clark, i think the subject for this article is iran. but if you want, you can talk about iraq.
bush's legacy has largely been determined. that is separate from this article. his policy, whether effective or ineffective, is not the subject either.

just as the governments in the middle east may not represent their citizens well, i think that bush's policies are not very popular at home. but we have to say more than "just say no". just saying no will not fix this problem.

you'd better find something that you say yes to.

i have found that what the middle east "needs" is not necessarily what it "gets". we have tried all the easy solutions. the problem is that there may not be a solution that everyone thinks is a "good" one. in fact, a solution is not guaranteed at all.

we have tried the easy things. what remains are the hard decisions, the complex ones.

if you think this is hard, try looking at the world from the point of view of the tribes who have not come into the 21st century yet. they may think that "we" are out of control, however they will probably not be able to influence anything that "we" do. technology is a difficult thing to "overcome".

while in the middle east, those with the most power will refuse to compromise? that is fine. but who has the "most power". the answer to that depends on whether you look at things globally, regionally, nationally, or locally.

it is a cultural belief shaped by their religious belief. you can't reason with it. that's the problem. they succeed in ruling or they are shamed. this is why they have felt shamed for centuries.
if they would not identify failure with a failure to rule everything they would not feel shamed. what shames them is their pride, their failure to achieve domination.

they will dominate or they will not. i will stand with the people who say no.

i am a republican but i'm not a social conservative. so i'm a dissident republican. and my challenge is to find someone i want to vote for. i can find too many that i want to vote against.

i've been voting for more democrats lately and i'm not happy with that.

i'm not thrilled by the libertarians. i think their economic system is too unrealistic and transition to their experiment would be brutal.

i have voted and not made a choice for all positions. although no one agrees with my views 100%, i do try to find the best fit, the best compromise.

i am politically active and i have found that i cannot work for a party anymore. i wish this wasn't so. i'd like to be a precinct committeeperson, for instance, but there is literature that i would not want to carry.

i don't think she was jealous. but i do think the re-release was planned in advance, probably before obama got much notice.

illegal aliens can often commit crimes and upon conviction are deported in order to save $ on prisons. the trouble with this policy is that they are back in within a few days, never serving time.

our citizens, though, must serve their sentence. they don't have the option of being deported.

do you think these are fine upstanding citizens who come up from mexico. i think some of them are. but we don't know who else has come because so many get through.

these are two of the people they caught. but more got through, criminal record/suspicion unknown.

the internships are extended while a student is in school and/or after a student graduates. many are unpaid at this time, although the post-graduation internships are more likely to be paid. i have cruised an internship database applying to many universities and have related that experience with internships. you are right, timothy, only some international students can stay and take an internship after graduation. some countries want their students home soon after graduation and some nations are more liberal.

i found a lot of chinese students in the math/sciences/economics majors in the last 10 years. so we may have interfaced with different majors and therefore different countries of origin.

timothy, i don't know why thai students have a harder time. how do we do the quota thing? i think we set quotas for areas, so they might be competing with chinese students for those slots. and chinese students have definitely been increasing.

all i can offer is anecdotal information re: internships, international student population, but those anecdotes come from several campuses on the west coast. i started looking at the situation when i was at school and found out that the only internships that i could possibly get were unpaid because there were few paid internships.
i had different finances than the international students. they didn't have to worry about where their income was coming from. i had to find a job or take out loans. i was very frustrated when i got calls from the unpaid internship companies. they didn't intend to pay me any money to live on, they just wanted me to work free. i went to some campus and employer-sponsored career fairs. same deal. work for free or don't apply. and plenty of international students were there willing to work free.
