Yeah, but somehow I was conned into believing Obama sought change.

Back in my youth (in the "children's crusade" for Eugene McCarthy) we switched the "all the way with LBJ" slogan to "half way with LBJ" (the domestic half). Obama has withdrawn few troops from the senseless Bush war and has charged more heavily into "the graveyard of empires."

I supported Obama in the presidential primary because I was hoping for more than a third Clinton term. Little did I suspect that what was coming was a third Bush term, except with someone who can articulate grammatical sentences in English.

The mandate of his election and super-majorities in House and Senate has led to little that matters and has expired as a third of the Senate and all the House members focus on re-election. Where should I look? Serious healthcare reform? Curbing coal smoke? Closing Guantanamo? Using the Patriot Act? Ending discrimination in the military? or what?

(and the triple-N was coined by William Safire, though made famous by Spiro T. before he resigned in disgrace)

I was there last month and there seemed to be many coffeehouses selling marijuana, hashish, and mushrooms. The area is a lot cleaner and more openly renting bodies that Time Square in NYC before Guiliani's "Disneyification."

Considering the extreme diffferences in population size of states, raw numbes are close to meaningless.This is made worse by lumping suicides and murders. But I'm still curious about what state is #10, since top-nine is very unusual!

The sun was out for less than an hour, during which I reshot a number of photos. The clouds were remassing as can be seen behind the bridge tower/gate photo (#18) with sun still on it.

It was the only hour of sunset we experienced not only in Heidelberg but in Germany, though there was sun through the Netherlands and in Alsace on our cruise up the Rhine (castle photos yet to come..)

The world's largest wine barrel:holding 55,000 gallons if I correctly recall. Yup! up and over it. Don't think the wine once in it could have tasted very good, but not one got cholera from drinking it.

The Federal Government has and should have responsibilities more than a tenth of a percent of localities'. I'd like a larger share to stay at home or return home--particularly resenting the north(+west coast)-to-south flow of federal tax dollars.

I was thinking more of colleges, community colleges, and universities than school districts, though all need more money. Will all of it be spent wisely? No, but the corruption of local governments awash in money would be epic.

The word is born and in widespread use, stimulated by the distinction between Islamists (who also hijakced dubious "fundamentals" and Muslims (/Islam).

There are Jewish fanatics, too. "Zionist" is misused for this. Perhaps there is a word used in Hebrew in Israel for those who seek to force the Jewish state to be a theocracy. Jewish fanatics join Christian and Muslim ones in Europe and North America to combat equality for women and gay people.

Hindu nationalists and even fanatic Buddhists (in Sri Lanka) parallel Christianists and Islamists not only in style but in substance in regard to sex and sexual orientation demeaning.
