I just roll my eyes and keep quiet when I hear my relatives spout their superstitious fairy tale beliefs. It's easier that way. I've already had an aunt try to "annoint" me with what she called "holy oil" but was really just olive oil that had been "blessed" by a preacher. I don't need my family trying to perform exorcisms on me when I visit.

I know what you mean about the pleasant surprise one gets when meeting a fellow atheist. My fiance recently found out that one of his coworkers is also an atheist. We don't go around bragging about it but it's nice to know that there are others who share our views.

I think that there are many people who claim to be believers because they are worried about what others will think, not because they really believe.

Great post! There are all sorts of things that I can't discuss with my family. I'm an atheist progressive bisexual in a family full of people who are deeply conservative and religious and many of them actually believe that people in the LGBT community are possessed by demons and that these demons are the cause of their homosexuality. You're lucky to have family members who share your beliefs and have your back so to speak.

The Dobsons and O'Reillys of the world don't want to admit or realize that we DO live in a diverse society. They want to stay in their bubble where everyone thinks and lives the way they do.

It breaks my heart that you can't have the babies that you want so much especially when there are people out there who can have kids and then treat them like dirt.

Wonderful. We live in a world that is overwhelmed by stolen innocence and so many children need this kind of help.

I remember my grandmother playing "Hava Nagila" on the piano and it does bring back such joyful and innocent memories.

He should be compensated but no amount of money can heal the psychological damage of being imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. And what if he had been raped and beaten up while imprisoned?! Absolutely horrible.

Unfortunately this barbaric practice has been transported to European nations and North America. It is very difficult to change a person's mindset when they have been ingrained with barbaric and archaic notions about female sexuality and social status.

Hilarious! I can't stand women who nag, it gives the rest of us a bad name. Some women still haven't learned that you catch more flies with honey. My fiance works with a lot of guys who stay late at work because it's better than being at home. My sweetheart is one of few who gets home early when he can.
