I'm a DEMOCRAT! I just haven't drank the kool-aid. No one here but Nippy has even addressed the topic of this article, Obama's gross portrayal of McCain as a racist and anti-immigration based on nothing, nothing but lies. I think the William Ayers connection is bogus, but compared to the Spanish ad it looks like Bible truth. But no one here will address that.

I KNOW what he was saying and he was right. But still, it was clearly a reference to the pitbull in lipstick in her speech. I mean, COME ON! Everyone talked about that comment she made for a week. I thought Obama's response was hilarious (so did the audience.) It was funny! I loved it.

Besides, the Obama campaign has done nothing but look for hidden codes. I'll bet you think putting Paris Hilton in an anti-Obama ad is clearly a reference to white male's fear of black men sleeping with white women. Obviously. Which is why I found it equally funny when McCain tried to act like Obama's words were sexist. They were no more sexist than McCain is racist.

I'm voting for Obama but obviously you are too knowledgeable to even both reading.

I state nothing but the facts in th above article.

But you're exhibit A in why I'm disgusted with my party's obsession with one politician. I think he'll be a fair president, but it's people like you who will be disappointed some 2009 when Obama becomes more than a catchphrase and needs to make actual decisions about to handle an Iranian nuclear threat to Israel. Or I guess he'll just invite him to tea. Or better yes, play the race card like in the SNL skit:

OBAMA: First of all, Jim, I would use traditional diplomacy, something this administration has consistently refused to do. Should that fail, then and only then, would I try what I call "playing the race card."

[LAUGHTER]

Well Bill, I think the reason Obama's audience laughed so riotously when Obama said lipstick on a pig was because he was making a reference to Palin's bulldog in lipstick remark. I thought it was funny too and I think it's absurd to deny that he was trying to make that joke. I didn't think it was sexist and I thought the McCain campaign overreacted in its attempt to portray it as that.

I think Palin's audience reacted strongly to her invocation of WIlliam Ayers and his (true) association to Obama. Yes they reacted in a hideous way.

But I think the audiences in BOTH cases responded to the gist of what each politician suggested. Their "code" if you will. I don't think that's even a bit of a stretch.

But if you wish to go on believing that Obama chose the words pig on a lipstick without any code than why do you hold Palin to that standard?

HE basically called McCain a racist against Hispanics in Spanish ads based on nothing but lies and out-of-context quotes from a man who despises him. How is that not a bad thing??! ]

If someone did that to me I would be INFURIATED!

AGain, at least it's true that Obama did associate with William Ayers even though it's completely irrelevant.

So, running a SPanish language ad that depicts a man who has championed immigration reform (that Ted Kenedy supported) in Hispanic markets to instigate sentiments of racial prejudice based on absolutely NOTHING but lies is not wrong.

Well CJ, if you took the 3 seconds it takes to click on the link I provide (to the reputable Washington Post) or take 30 seconds to do a little googling yourself, you'd see my description is accurate.

The thing is, Obamaniacs don't WANT to see the the truth. They don't want to admit that there candidate is not The One, is not the Messiah, and has his flaws.

In 2004 I was disgusted with how ignorant so many right-wing voters were on Iraq. But in 2008 (and again, I'm voting for Obama) I'm still disgusted with how ignorant the Left is regarding their candidate. Few can describe his many and egregious shifts, particularly regarding tax policy. They talk about his energy policy but have no idea that he voted for the Bush-Cheney Energy Plan and McCain vetoed it. They mock McCain's senior moments but know nothing of Obama's own mental slips (SOrry Obama, there aren't 56 states, and 10 not 10,000 people were killed by that tornado in Kansas.)

But hey, I understand if you don't want to click on the link above. Just stick your head in the sand like your icon. I understand if you wish to remain ignorant. But it completely robs you of any credibility when you claim one man take sthe high road and the other flings mud.

All I'm trying to say is that both candidates are guilty of personal attacks, yet the media portray Obama as a victim. I actually plan on voting for Obama because I agree with him on the issues, but I think my media assessment here is fair and I'm baffled that many Obama supporters won't admit that.

Did you read the link Joe T? There is more truth in the WIlliam Ayers claim than the Limbaugh ad. The irony is, McCain probably suffered more racist political attacks in the 2000 primary (Rove rumors about black daughter) than Obama has this election.

I totally agree. It's absurd to act like we're not engaged in diplomacy with Iran.

What's disconcerting is the fact that our botched war in Iraq has robbed that area of a powerful counterbalance and made Iran much stronger than it was only a few years ago. Republicans like to talk about being touch on terror and foreign policy, but in the past 8 years nuclear weapons have proliferated. I'm not sure that the Dems can do much better, but I do think Clinton did a better job than Bush in balancing diplomacy with military power in ridding Libya of nuclear weapons. Bush can't claim similar successes. In fact, his pown appointee John Bolton has railed against the Bush administration for making a travesty of multilateral talks with North Korea and allowing it to become much stronger.

You are so so right! Roger SImon penned this to express his profound remorse:

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On behalf of the media, I would like to say we are sorry.

On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry.

We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked.

We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?

Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.

It is not our job to ask questions. Or it shouldn’t be. To hear from the pols at the Republican National Convention this week, our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.

Sarah Palin hit the nail on the head Wednesday night (and several in the audience wish she had hit some reporters on the head instead) when she said: “I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.”

But where did we go wrong with Sarah Palin? Let me count the ways:

First, we should have stuck to the warm, human interest stuff like how she likes mooseburgers and hit an important free throw at her high school basketball tournament even though she had a stress fracture.

Second, we should have stuck to the press release stuff like how she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere (after she supported it).

Third, we should never have strayed into the other stuff. Like when The Washington Post recently wrote: “Palin is under investigation by a bipartisan state legislative body. … Palin had promised to cooperate with the legislative inquiry, but this week she hired a lawyer to fight to move the case to the jurisdiction of the state personnel board, which Palin appoints.”

Why go there? What trees does that plant?

Fourth, we should stop making with all the questions already. She gave a really good speech. And why go beyond that? As we all know, speeches cannot be written by others and rehearsed for days. They are true windows to the soul.

Unless they are delivered by Barack Obama, that is. In which case, as Palin said Wednesday, speeches are just a “cloud of rhetoric.”

Fifth, we should stop reporting on the families of the candidates. Unless the candidates want us to.

Sarah Palin wanted the media to report on her teenage son, Track, who enlisted in the Army on Sept. 11, 2007, and soon will deploy to Iraq.

Sarah Palin did not want the media to report on her teenage daughter, Bristol, who is pregnant and unmarried.

Sarah Palin thinks that one is good for her campaign and one is not, and that the media should report only on what is good for her campaign. That is our job, and that is our duty. If that is not actually in the Constitution, it should be. (And someday may be.)

The official theme of the convention’s third day was “prosperity,” but the unofficial theme was “the media are really, really awful.”

Even Mike Huckabee, who campaigned for president this year by saying “I am a conservative, but I am not mad at anybody,” discovered Wednesday night that he is mad at somebody.

“I’d like to thank the elite media for doing something,” Huckabee said, “that, quite frankly, I didn’t think could be done: unify the Republican party and all of America in support of John McCain and Sarah Palin.”

And could that be the real point of the attacks on the media? To unify the Republican Party?

No, that is simply the cynical, media view.

Though as Lily Tomlin says, “No matter how cynical I get, it’s just never enough to keep up.”

I couldn’t resist that. For which I am sorry.
