Iran is already an Islamic state and what it is attempting, through its proxy, Hizbollah, is to turn Lebanon into one. Whether it will succeed is doubtful, however. Lebanon, which was once known as the Paris of the Middle East, has a centuries-old tradition of liberalism. If, for example, more and more Lebanese women are taking to the veil, it is out of fear and not relgious conviction. When push comes to shove and the Lebanese people become convinced that their way of life is facing the threat of extinction, they will rise up and throw the Hizbollah out of their country.

The question to be asked is why Iran is showing interest in a small South American country with which it has absolutely nothing in common, historically, culturally or relgion-wise. Could it be that Iran is seeking a foothold in one hemisphere of the America's. It is widely believed that Iran is well on it's way to acquiring nuclear technolgy. Perhaps, with its new found confidence in its power, it sees itself as becoming a major power on the world stage. Given the Iranian leaderships visceral hatred and distrust of the US, America would do well to keep a close eye on this development.

For many people, music is something pleasant playing in the background while they (shudder) multi-task. They listen with their ears; I listen with my heart. For me, music is not a pastime, it's a passion. I try not to discriminate based on genre, but I do insist the tune must have at least a rudimentary melody. Rampaging guitar chords and deafening drums are OK to accentuaye parts of a song, but not when they ARE the song. I own a humongous music collection comprising over 25000 tracks.

Lori Lee...I appreciate you speaking yr mind. Of course, the article bothered you. It would bother anyone with a basic sense of decency and fair play. The despicable acts described were certainly not representative of average white Americans. In fact, it is because the majority of whites are decent folk like you that Obama got elected.

Candace....with all due respect, I am not promoting anything. This article describes actual events that were reported in the American press. Also, I cannot take personal credit for the phrase "Black Messiah"...it is a borrowed epithet. In any case, it was certainly not my intention to tie it literally to religion.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of God (otherwise known as Democrats), I must admit I find some of the arguments childishly simplistic. If you want 4 more years of Bush, vote for McCain. Bush is a terrorist because he shook hands with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who in turn, is a terrorist because the perpertrators of 9/11 were Saudis. It's like saying all Americans are sickos because the Unabomber was a sicko. Are these folks listening to themselves?

Jeff...I totally agree with yr views on Muslims. However, as someone who has visited the US fairly regularly, you can't escape the reality that a certain degree of racial profiling is very apparent, particularly at airport immigration counters.

I must agree that I personally regard Obama's so-called Muslim affiliations as Conservative propoganda; and a sign of their desperation. In fact, I saw a McCain town hall meeting on CNN yesterday, where some of the Republicans present were in a state of utter disbelief at the possiblity of Obama becoming President. Nonetheless, Obama has spent an enormous amount on money on his campaign; and now I hear he has funded his own TV channel. Questioning his source of funds is legitimate.

Lynn...what yr admitting, in essence, is that Iraq is a country under occupation...which is the reality. Why perpetuate the myth that the Iraqis are in charge of anything? Malliki signed off on the bases coz he really had no choice...and perhaps he didn't mean for the agreements to be in perpetuity. Yes, the US controls the airspace and they are gonna make sure no third country supplies the Iraqi air force ( if there is one) with aircraft, so that they remain dependant on the US.
