My daughters are tearing through these books right now. So, the sea-change moment is nearly upon me: will they ask mom-n-dad to see the movie with them, or will they go WITH THEIR FRIENDS, & leave the old folks behind?

Yes, actually in mid-March, on the "windward" side of Oahu. (and I DON'T have to explain "windward" to an old sea-dog like you!) I'll soon be posting a wider-angle shot, which includes a nearby island known by the politically-incorrect name of "Chinaman's Hat."

Thanks...I have a pet theory called the "Lava Lamp Theory of Civilizations." Like the lamp, a society will slowly rise up from the muck, gathering itself up, becoming a glowing sight to behold! Until, unable to rise further, it begins to cool...it gets jostled by other clumps...and begins to descend. Only to find itself, in the end, dragged back down into the muck from whence it came.

A lot of "straight-arrows" use the quote, "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger," without realizing it's one of Nietzsche ‘s. Not to mention I've always thought it was completely untrue...

Watched "New Orleans:" I think there's a tightrope to be walked when it comes to internet "guerilla marketing." This might fall off the tightrope in this area: too slick (i.e., "well-produced,") & too scripted. I'd like to have a couple of webisodes take on a rougher, more "YouTube-ish," feel...which in this day & age conveys more "legitimacy" to the indie-crowd they're supposedly trying to appeal to.

I'd ordinarily want to wish them good luck, but if they've already got backing from a top-50 corporation and others, I think it's a foregone conclusion that after a brief "internet campaign," we'll be seeing her CD in Starbucks. Congratulations, ladies...

Yes, apparently we DO need to remember who started this war. WE DID!! How many Iraquis were on those planes? NONE! How much Iraqui money was behind it all? NONE! How many atomic bombs have we found in Iraq? NONE!

At first I thought he was perhaps a former roadie for the Stray Cats: I guess the hair fooled me...So, YES, I DID have to "googlize" the name to figure out who he was!

P.S.: I use "googlize" as a generic term for using an internet search engine: I won't patronize a service that actively assists the Chinese government in the repression of its people. Lately I've been using Ask.com & Clusty.com

I'm actually the other way around: I'd rather read a "history piece" than read fiction. I enjoy considering all the "what if's:" the "stranger than fiction" events that have often serendipitously conspired to make the world what it is today.

My kids' childhoods are beginning to look a lot more like mine: They listen to "music" that daddy doesn't understand; daddy thinks they've got it a lot easier as kids than he had it; and in the background, they hear the same TV talking heads going on about "escalation," guerrilla warfare and the strange-sounding names of far-flung battlefields. Oh, wait: MY TV images of Hue, Quang Tri and the Mekong Delta were in BLACK & WHITE...Never mind...
