I would advise *cautiously* re-establishing the relationship, one step at a time -- making it clear up front why you are not ready to let her "all the way IN" at once. Then carefully, and as non-emotionally as you can manage, consider and re-consider each level of the re-connect as it happens. Maybe email is the best venue for now, for you, and you'll never be completely comfortable beyond that. TELL HER as soon as you come to any / each conclusion, and don't expect any of the process to be simple or just overnight.

(That packet of drivel for advice' sake presumes that you have your own reasons for wanting to re-establish contact for a longer term relationship...)

As an American (USA) born south of the Mason-Dixon, but in territory that was North-aligned for the "unpleasant exchange", I was raised all too near the racist side of the equation. Both grandfathers were sometimes bitterly so in my presence as a young child and even later (for reference, I was born in 1958, they were born in 1898 and 1908).

I like to believe that I have grown beyond my ancestry and circumstances, and strive hard not to repeat the mistakes and unfortunate prejudices of those earlier generations, but I must admit that it is sometimes hard and even approaches impossible when confronted with racial bigotry from the other side of the divide.

I'm going to have to ruminate on these thoughts for a time. Expect an article of commentary Real Soon Now.

From (years of) experience with Brita pitcher filters, unless your local water supply is REALLY bad you might be able to increase the lifespan of individual cartridges up to that three month mark instead of just 2.5

Reconsider also any changes your local water supply may make based upon season of the year or other considerations -- may need more frequent filter changes during the summer than during the winter, due to chlorine changes and stress of higher volume usage.

A bill in the California legislature would be specific to California; what makes this Federal is that a member of the US House of Representatives *from* California introduced the legislation for federal consideration (if I'm untangling the threads properly).

Good to see the additional information as part of your review. I drink diet soda exclusively these days (diagnosed with Type II diabetes about fifteen years back), and indulge in Diet Dew only occassionally -- too aggresive for my normal tastes.

The "mini-bear" is too cute for words -- can I hope nobody gets too many ideas, though? (They DO NOT make good / safe pets!)

I've also done biscuits in approximately the same setup (dutch oven, trivet, foil/lightweight pan) with reasonable results.
