Very good advice JF. , I bought a used Mac serveral years ago off e-bay. When I got the computer, I opened it and started the computer just to make sure everything worked. Everything worked fine so I put it away as I didn't need it right at that time. One Saturday night I brought the computer out hooked it up and booted it up. I started to look around in the file system and found fianical and medical records of the previous owner. The previous owner was skrink and had all her patients notes on the computer and all of her personal financial info on the hard drive. After looking at some of data to make sure it was indeed true. I turned the computer reformed the hard drive and installed a new O/S. If I was less than a honest person that info could have been very valuable. Please, Please, follow JF.'s advice. One last note when I no longer needed the computer. I took the hard drive out and destroyed it with a hammer.

I oppose a PRECONDITION OF SURGICAL CASTRATION BEFORE THE "EARLY" RELEASE OF PEDOPHILES ON PAROLE. The why is contained in my story. I was a friend to guy at work. After knowing him for over two years, I found out from his brother he was a pedophile. I won't go into his story but I will comment on his behavior. His views on sexuality seemed to be at a adolescent level and he was at times obsessed with sex. He was a very intelligent man with IQ of at least 130 and a most generous spirit. But most of all, he was, I believe , a man hard wired incorrectly. What he found as acceptable behavior me and many others did not. Sadly, I ended our friendship not long after finding out he was a pedophile. I was to small of a person who could not seperate the disease from the person. It is with much shame I admit this. For all of you who wish to deny rights, castrate, and /or give medication, think long and honestly about this.

In California it may cause quite a stir. There is already a movement to get a ballot measure on the November to stop gay marriages. The ballot measure I don't believe will pass, but it will bring the republicans out to the polls who may not have voted due to their disdain for McCain. As to whether "Americans are getting used to the idea of full-on marriage for same-sex couples" I don't think so.

I do not mean to undermine you as a parent/mother but since I have adult ADD and I have a adult son with ADD I thought I might comment. Medication really does not change behavior it only provides a means so he can focus and change behavior. Since he is so young, I have doubts that he knows how to change or use the door thats been opened to him by the medication. Since you are taking son to a psychologist he/she can definetly confirm or deny the MD's suspect ADHD diagnosis. One last thought, many times ADHD is accompied with other disorders (I have two others that tag along). If you have not done so already check out the childerns ADHD web sites and their are many fine books on the subject. I cannot say it strong enough: Medication only opens the door, the person does the work. May prayers are with you

I take simvastatin which you could say is a brother to Lovastatin (Wikipedia simvastatin). As I understand it high cholesterol in your later 50's has much to do with genetics you inherited from your family. Where as high cholestrerol in your 20's, 30's, or 40's can be dealt with diet and exercise. Although I imagine a good diet and exercise program at any age is benefical. The only side effects I had where headaches after I ate lunch or dinner (I took the med at about 4pm why that effected me after lunch the next day is beyond me. I found if I ate very small meals the headaches where not as severe) and I also noticed the medication gave me a slight buzz just enough so I had a hard time going to sleep(that why I started taking the medication at 4pm). After two months all the side effects where gone. If I could get away from medication by diet and exercise I'd do it.

I on the other hand was raised in a home where many of my father's friends were blacks and hispanic. I did not speak or interact with my father-in-law very much the first 15 years I knew him because of his racist views and he was very aware of this. At about the 15 year mark I decided to accept him just he was, racist views and all. What developed over the next 9 years until his death was a slow but steady friendship. I found that he had some very good qualities and other qualities that limited him oh so much. I accepted the whole man not just the parts I liked but I accepted his short coming and faults. And that I find is the crux of the problem today. We seem to think if others have faults and we acknowledge they do it somehow precludes them from giving wise counsel. I'm here to say it does not. My father-in-law was most likely a racist until the day he died but he also gave me many words of wisdom and a friendship I miss still today. To accept another's faults is to accept our own humanity.

I live in CA and we do have high taxes. Our neighboring state to the east NV has no income tax thanks to the gambleing income and our neighboring state north has no sales tax. The amount of taxes that is imposed by the three states mentioned above have never been a barrier to people coming to CA ,in fact many people live in CA right to the border of NV and to a lesser extent OR.

If one was to follow your line of thought no one would live in CA, NY, TX (very high property taxes) and I'm sure a few more states I'm not aware of.

Again, you tried to use events, that have occured, to justify your no tax stance.

Gary E. bet me to the punch, but as he said the desert fathers and mothers from the fourth century practiced wordless prayer (meditation) which continued on until the 16th century where it slowly declined. In the late 60'-70's (?) father Basil Pennington and two other monks brought back wordless prayer renaming it centering prayer with many remarkable results.

On a personal note; I practice centering prayer. I came to find word prayer to ego centered where as sitting in the silence and the presence of God fulfilling and life changing beyond words.

We are all beckened to Christ in different manners this is mine, it is not for all.

I applaud the candor in your article. To understand politics there are many fine books on the subject as gathers limited forum is not ample enough to give the subject a proper discussion.

As for your idea of a joint presidency hear is my experiance with the subject. I worked for a fine company and the owner/CEO was retiring. He felt a joint CEO operation would be the best way for the company to proceed (two heads are better than one). Well, what happened was the company was pulled in two directions and the end result was paralysis. There was so much rancor and bitterness he was forced to come back and took control of the company again so that day to day operations could resume. Unfortunately, we humans seem to need one person as a leader.

Much to my suprise,about 6 months ago, a friend asked what I was reading and I flipped my book up so she could read it and she said " I didn't know you read Chick-lit". I said Chick what? and she filled me in. I feel as long as the story is good who cares about the category is.

My wife and I talked about this very topic last week. Two things we both agreed on was in many cases people want the cheapest product, even though it may not solve their problem, and if they choose the product that will do the job they want it far below your profit margin. Its rather odd but buyer's do not seem to feel good about themselver/the product unless they drive the price down.

I agree with Bobbie S. it's really better to deal with small local companies. I enjoy interacting with people in my own community. But, in all fairness where would I be without a company such as Amazon.com who lets me browse thousands of book at time of the day and in many cases makes available used books at a great discount?

I've taken levoxyl for many years with great results especially since the formulation has been changed to deal with cramps. It really should make no differance that there "15% less medication than brand name drugs" if your t7 (t3+t4) blood test show everything is within the acceptable range. Just a few observations about the thyroid and medications:What can and does happen is thyroid levels can flexuate. That is why all of my phyiscans have had me come in for a blood work every six months. I recently started taking a new med and took my thyroid blood test and low and behold. I had to cut my thyroid med by 25% . I glad you feeling better now

We have a terrier that that came all the way from southern California, as the shelters there are so overcrowed. She had only two more days to live when the rescue people brought her to northern California. I've always had a place in my soul for animals. My son, former wife, and my mother-inlaw where and are pack rats. I've heard every excuse for keeping poessions one can imagine. We all have emotional attachments to "Things" it just seems that pack rats attachments are very strong. I would not worry about keeping the "monkees cards" as long as it does not consume your life.

My former mother-inlaw took up playing bingo the last seven years of her life. She went every week throughly enjoyed it and usually won $20-$100 every week. When she passed over the childern had to order a very large commerical dumpster to dispose all of her belonging's. They had to go through the house and a very large barn to clear out fifty plus years of keeping things. When the dumpster was about 1/3 full, one of the daughter came upon some of her bingo cards she always kept. The daughter was just about ready to throw the bingo cards in the trash bags but instead opened one, folded over in the middle was $30.00 and some change. She opened a few more and found more money. The whole family went back to the dumpster and unloaded it and went through everything very closely. When the house and barns where cleaned out, they had found $7,000 in bills and $3,000 in coins. She never put her winnings in the bank just in a drawer at home.
