Since my husband was raised jewish and his family celebrates Hannukkah and my family celebrates Christmas complete with Santa, We went from the truth from the beginning. But to hopefully keep my kid from being the cynical one on the playground crushing all the others we told them it is a way of celebrating. We tell about the original Santa and all the Santa stories from around the world. We go see Santa and get our pictures taken. My kids have a very healthy view on Santa and I like it.

Personal prayer is allowed in schools legally. Many schools offer a moment of silence or reflection every morning. It is up to the parent to teach a child how to take advantage of that time in their own way.

Just out of curiosity... you said
"You want only non-gays in the military ..." - Openly gay military personnel would at minimum be a distraction.
Would you also ban Women? Because we must be a distraction as well?

PS I pray for a peaceful resolution to this war every single day. But I know that is unrealistic ayt this point. I alos pray for victory but I think that is unrealistic as well!

I am really sick and tired of that kind of comment and arguement. And Joe is right, the question was "...if we had never engaged in the Iraq war." I love this country and consider myself a patriot even if some others may not agree with me. I also care very deeply for the service men and women putting their lives on the line. I care so much for them I want them home with their families or actually protecting America!

Sepration of church and state! If you want prayer in a classroom put your children in religious schools. What would you think if your children were lead in and required to participate in a religion that was not yours? Violence has risen everywhere, not just in the schools. It is my job as a parent to pray with my children, this is not the school's job!

Hey Jenny, I know you are an oddball but I love you for it.
I am all for an individual praying out loud and expressing their views, thats not what this is about. This is about sanctioned prayer from a government institution like a public school. And the point of this particular email was not that we should all pray in our own way...It was to proclaim that this was the time to "take back the US." That Christian prayer is the only prayer that is ok for public consumption. That anyone who sees a flaw in this is flawed in someway.

I'll be taking a pilgrimage up north on Columbus day weekend. I do miss the colors of home since I transplanted to the DC area. I hope to see some color and let my kids enjoy it as well since they don't remember living there.

I am continually amazed that this kind of thing still gets everybody all worked up!
Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world! If My father , brother and grandfather could get used to me nursing my children in front of them then we all can! It just kills me that this is STILL an issue!
