I hope you do get to make it someday....and don't worry about following the recipe or even my own adaptation....Since you already make changes in others, go for it with this one and then share your version with us!

Jungles are nice! We're trying to plant mostly edibles even though we still plant a few ornamentals...when you have edibles that are as pretty as these, I feel doubly blessed!
Ummmmmmmm...banana smoothies are great....Enjoy your jungle!

I guess by now everyone that knows me knows how I feel about mangoes....I can't wait for the first mangoes of a new season to come in... Here we can get mangoes int he stores year round but off season they are imported from Central and South America...they are not as good due to picking early so I prefer to wait for the local season...but have been known to buy off season if I had to have a fix ;-)

Thank you, Mariana! I enjoyed visiting the mill very much and one of the daily highlights on the trip back and forth was just passing by it...
I didn't use to like okra at all, and still can't stand it when slimy, but in this recipe it wasn't slimy at all.

Yes, okra is in the same family as the hibiscus and cotton, believe it or not.

Looks good. We can get Korean pancake mixes here in pouches and one of the suggestions on the package is to add veggies.

We do this often when we want a light evening meal.

I don't even knead this dough....just mix and then let it rest for about 10-14 minutes in the bread mold....and pop in the oven. My sister used 7 lof the little bananas, a bit smaller than the Brazilian apple nanners I used here, and she said it was delicious!

Definitely rich and turbulent.....
My home town was settled about 191 years ago by French immigrants from Louisiana and Bordeaux. Many of the original street names were French - later changed to numbers when the C brothers took over the government...Many of the original buildings are well maintained and kept painted to this day....in Havana, many of the old colonial buildings are crumbling for lack of care and attention... There is a little gem of a colonial town called Trinidad up in the Escambray Mountains not too far from my home town well worth the time and effort to visit.... where you could almost swear time stood still in the late 1800's...
It is a beautiful country, that's for sure!

I don't have any immediate family left in Cuba....and by immediate I am reaching even back to 2nd and 3rd cousins several times removed ;-)
Our family is scattered all over the globe. Hit almost any place on the world map and I probably have a relative there...;-)

I probably can't go back as long as the present government is in place as we were acused of kidnapping my son - there is a story early on my Gather stint about it....but even if I could or if the C brothers leave, I don't thing I would go back. Things are too different from what I remember and I'd rather keep my memories.

I have 3 deadlines looming and having problems with the photos that go with 2 of the articles..... long story...... but gist of it is I lost all photos on a digital card and had to get them retrieved by a techie....now I can see them all on thumbprints but not all show up when I try to open them.....!
I am panicking....

There were many Cubans already living in the States before Castro...and many families used to send their children to school in the States (I was one of them) since Colonial days...my father was 4 first time he visited the States (this would have been 1913) and they visited New Orleans and New York...it was pretty common for Cuban couples to honeymoon in the States, many went to Miami.
Cubans who left Cuba before Castro are called Émigré, those after Castro are called exiled or refugees....;-) I am an exiled Cuban, not a refuge.
