Elizabeth M. had it right in her last sentence. There is nothing anyone can say that could make the parents feel any worse or more guilt-ridden. In life, things happen. So much is out of our control. I know that is hard to hear at this time - but let's focus all our spiritual energy on the little one.

Stephanie B. you are the voice of reason and wisdom; I really love reading your posts, comments, and appreciate your beautiful spirit. And I really do have hope and optimism for all of us; and our country - I know all sides will come together. Jeff & Erik, thanks for comments.

I started this post as a comment to comment on one of Stephanie's posts! But it became too long, and I didn't want to insult you (Stephanie) or any of your great and positive commenter's with my sheer disgust.

I was answering this comment:

Elizabeth - I used your own words to try to make my point. True, I tried to tie everything to those three horrible words you had used, and it was probably a stretch in doing so.

No I'm not a racist, far from it. I do have a problem with the way they tried to shove Governor Palin down America's throat. But that is my problem, and it has NOTHING to do with her race or her gender. I truly believe she is getting a bad rap. But she allowed herself to be used (hubris, blind ambition, ego!?!?), and for that I think she ruined any chance of being her party's future leader.

Venom? Exploitive? Does it matter why this happened? It is happening every day. I know what our country is capable of, and I know you all are also.

Super delegates will never be contenders for a profiles in courage award, they'll go as the wind blows, and try to go with a winner. This is not a new system, and I'm confused as to why voters are so up in arms about it. The candidates were all well aware of the roll that super delegates play. The super d's votes count for 40% in the democratic primary process, and have since the inception of the super delegate system (recent history)! that's huge! REpubs also have super delegates, just not as many with less weight toward the nomination.

Of course, they've not come into play since we haven't had any close primary elections in our recent history. Keep in mind, the super delegate system is only about 30 yrs old. It serves a purpose, and again, EVERY candidate knows going in the role of the super delgates, the fickleness of the super delegates, and they start wooing them right off the bat.

If the candidates know going in, why should the super delegates suddenly be tossed out? It's like playing a sports game, any game, that may go into overtime; but before the OT starts, one of the teams says, I want to go back to the last inning /quarter /etc., so I can be the winner. Rule changes at the last minute because your supporters suddenly find out about a rule they dont' like is not fair.

Well done...bravo! And for one of the above commenter's, the Republicans also have a super delegate system, just not as broad, with fewer of them, and it doesn't carry the same weight as the Democratic system (40%).

I've been totally amazed at the outcry by so many about the roll of the Super Delegates. This system is not new. It's not old either, the super delegate system was just deigned within the last 30 years. I've always known about them. But since we've never had such a close primary race, they've never been an issue.

BUT....all the candidates were aware going in about how much weight the super delegates vote holds. And they are also aware that the majority of super delegates would never be considered for a 'profiles in courage' award.

They can and do change their minds as they please, and usually go with the presumed winner so they won't be "on the other side" when another wins. They can change their mind right up until the last second, whether they've pledged their vote or not. And they usually do. It may seem antiquated, but there is a solid basis for it; but it's hard to grasp when so many people are feeling invigorated, and energized about the voting process and have never really studied the process. Politics is funny, and very dense, and sometimes hard to comprehend. You could have a slight lead in votes, but lose in delegates, prior to the super delegate count.

The party leaders can and should address this prior to the convention. They pushed the convention back to late August. If we wait until convention to announce our candidate, that will leave about 2 months to campaign against the GOP nominee. Even though the Democrats have the wind at our backs, and a huge swell of support and desire for change; waiting till August will put us at a distinct disadvantage.

You go it. And to take it a step further, on the other side, Huckabee is turning out to be some sort of modern day, (dare I say it) "compassionate conservative" and all around good guy; connecting with the evangelicals who yearn for someone like him. He even says: "Yes, I'm a conservative, but I'm not mad about it!" hehehe

And look at the awakening that Ron Paul has ignited within a younger and more libertarian wing of their party.

Bush fatigue will help those with positive messages of change, promisees of hope, reflective intellegence, and the security of self to know when to lead, and know when to ask for directions (so to speak).

Obama's self assurance, presence, obvious commitment and intellect could not be more needed, and more appropriat to fuel the flames of those wanting to take our country back.

Hillary does the same for me, but I've been on this journey of hope for 7 yrs. now, and since I've been ready and working towards it, I'm more pragmatic about the outcome, and just hope these "new" voters can be counted on in Novemeber.

You know, living in Riyadh was a trip. I actually loved there. My husband preferred Jedda (they say Jidda).

Things are quite different, for sure. But customs and cultures differ all over the world, and eve in our country from region to region.

Don't get me wrong, it is definitely a man's world over there, Saudi women do not work (and the men don't really "work", but they do have offices and such!), or venture out in public unless chaperoned with husband, father or brother. But believe me, they have roses, and gold, and McD's, and KFC (they deliver....), Safeway, and some of the most wonderful malls and shopping souks in the world.

Since Bush took office, the 5 % of radical Wahabi-ists have become much more forceful, and grown in numbers. The Saudi people love westerners and western culture, as did most Lebanese, Egyptians, Iranians, Kuwaitis' and most of the other Asian/Arab people. Their love of all things American has definitely taken a turn for the worst. But it's not impossible to repair our relationships, and by doing so, we can take the wind out of more moderate extremists who truly want what we all want.

Peace, a safe home, good schools and education for their children, and respect of their culture and customs. When I get more time, I'll upload some of the pictures from our time over there. It's really amazing for folks to see that the majority of the Saudi's are just like us.

Yes, they have terrorists, and due to our dreadful foreign policy, we've helped their recruiting efforts more than any charismatic leader could have. But we also have home grown terrorists here. McVeigh for one, but also the murderers, serial killers, and random violent hoods who prowl neighborhoods, where local residents live in fear everyday. Terror is terror. I wish we'd address some of our own issues at home.
