Phenomenal writng. I can relate to this on many levels, though only 57. You write with such beautiful poignancy. It is such a gift to be able to put on paper images that bring to life things that are now gone. full of sadness also.

There have been moments when the muse have descended and taken me to places I've not been before. One time we were hosting a japanese exchange student in our home. Tokihero exchanged his art supplies with my daughter's art supplies. He proceeded to create a haunting watercolor of a girl standing on a hill, on a moonlit night. I felt like Michael Clarke Duncan in the movie, The Green Mile ; a poem was sucked out of me (Not Alone), instantly. I did edit it a few times over the years, but there was definitely some ethereal and mystic about its origin. I have felt that way when taking a few of my best flower photography and after setting an invitingly beautiful table for folks to come over for soup, salad and soul sharing.

I look forward to reading your creative writings and books.

duhhhh. ingredulous.
When we lived in southern ca our 5 year old son was squatting at the end of a rack in a fabric store. he was surprisingly still, marveling at all the colorful bric- brac. An elderly woman came around the corner, didn't see him, fell over him, breaking her glasses. The people tried to sue the store and the store tried to sue us. thank goodness, it never al happened.

I started Lewis in 1971 and have most of his books. wh4n my husband ank i married, he was the only author that we had complete duplicates of.
The parts i've read have really impressed me, esp. thinking this is a good book for a non believer to read.

May diversity in reading interests is the true spice of life.

The worst part of my Dad's 'long goodbye' was one of the last times I saw him. It was January, 2002 or 03 (I can't remember the year. I do know it was the year the first Tolkien movie came out). I was saying goodbye to him after our visit in Colorado. He knew who I was through all the 15 years of his alzhemers. Realizing it might be the last time I see him (he died in 04) I became choked up. What was so hard was that he just smiled at me. He had no comprehension of how hard it was for me/us to see him as such a shell. That broke my heart.

Yes, coming across and connecting with 'great gentlemen' is a rare and privileged moment, especially when we are led serendipiously to such encounters.

In the late 70s, in St. Louis, I was a hospital chaplain and was able to be with one of those gentlemen. I am not a baseball fan but I became a fan of John Schulte in the last months of his life. His wife would call me 'his girlfriend'. I would come and sit with him, giving her a break. He was a baseball hall of famer and one other hall of fame (sorry, don't remember which). He allowed me to be a part of his dying process. We often die the way we live. It was true of this gentle-man.

Often the truth/wholeness we strive for is elusive. God IS THERE but we don't comprehend how much He loves and accepts us and how full of rebellion our hearts are. It is a complicated walk on the road of redemption. Glory is guanteed for those 'who love God and called according to his purposes'. The evidence of that calling is not in our pure living (which none of us have...'for all have sinned and fall short") but in giving all in oblation to Him and knowing His overwhelming grace.

Been there, done that and YES, it is a great place to visit. We lived in s. ca. when we took a three week trip to Canada in the early 90s. And all in between (Lake Tahoe, Shasta, Oregon coast, Hurricane Ridge, Harbor below that area, Victoria Island, Nordsrom campground on a very small lake, a-frame cabin in full fall folliage, Athabasca Glacier, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff, Glacier Natl Park, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and back to CA.

Stayed one night in bishop...went to the bakery. still remember the fun. our four kids loved it also. still have great photos of the little city, on paper and in my mind.
