Food & Water Watch Staff Mar 26, 2008, 1:10pm EDT The United States has some of the safest tap water in the world and, in most places for most people, is the best choice for your health, your pocket book, and the environment. While the EPA requires tap water to be tested hundreds of times a month, FDA requires much less testing of bottled water and has practically no staff overseeing the industry. Most folks concerned about contaminants or the taste, can easily and cheaply filter tap water. That said, the United States is facing a huge gap between the funds needed and the funds available to maintain and upgrade pipes and treatment plants -- necessary investment to keep tap water clean and safe for the next generation.
