I don't have one, but my sister did. When she was about 10 I told her about deodorant. She asked for some for Christmas. And when she got it in her stocking she was actually yelling and screaming she was so happy. over deodorant!!! It had something to do with growing up, a rite of passage. She's the baby of 3 girls..

Since it is who I find fascinating I would have to say Columbus. I am so proud to live in this great country. And plenty of people since have made it great, but he started it off. And since there is so much historical speculation over whether or not he really did find America I would say the pilgrims are the runners up.

Last year's toast at this time was that my baby Xavier would make it. He was in the NICU, had just had a transfusion, and we weren't sure if he'd make it.

He did! He is now a happy, healthy 1 year old!

Our first for both of our boys were the Puffs. They melt in your mouth and come in many different flavors. Then as they got good with those we went on to crackers, cheerios, soft cheese in small chunks, canned fruit, cut up very small, peas (squished so they don't choke), and other soft veggies cut well: beans, broccoli, carrots, and corn. And believe it or not both of ours loved feeding themselves french fries very early, I know, not too healthy, but fun!

I try to stay away from the ready made/easy make stuff that is packed with preservatives and sodium. I definitely use them sometimes, especially on those crazy nights, but try to make as much as possible with fresh ingredients.

It is hard, my family can eat unhealthy meals for so much less than fresh nutritious meals. For example, we can all eat at McDonald's for way less than most meals I make from scratch with fresh ingredients.

I try to look at the shopping circulars for the week, buy fruits and vegetables that are in season, take advantage of buying anything in bulk that saves money (buy one get one free, 2 for $4, etc.), and use coupons. That really helps me make nutritious meals from scratch using fresh ingredients.

Keep the stress level down. With all the shopping, baking, visiting, drinking, and decorating you can burn out.

Our son is on the Autism spectrum and has a rough time with sensory overload. He needs a break from all of that and the lights and splendor or the holidays. And we can all use a little of that. We too can have sensory overload!

Oh no, I missed it. But did want to share really quickly. My aunt passed right before Christmas one year. Her sister found her presents all wrapped and labeled and gave them to us. How heart wrenching. I couldn't open them for a long time.

She gave my husband a Mikasa snare drum ornament, he is a drummer. It was so thoughtful. She welcomed my husband into our family and was so generous to us all.

Every year when we hang that ornament I feel sad and happy at the same time. She is still watching us hang it every year.

Our whole family uses a more natural "green" moisturizer. Right after showers and baths. My sons both have horrible eczema, and the lotion we use has completely cleared it up. Sometimes in the winter they get a few rough patches, calves, backs of arms, and I use an ointment with Melaleuca oil in it that clears the patch overnight!

My favorite part of the holidays is seeing everything now through my kids' eyes. I always loved Christmas, but it is even more special watching my boys enjoy it. The lights, the tree, the candy canes, the snow, the presents, Santa, decorations, all those things they get so excited over!

This sounds so cheesy, but I got goosebumps reading your comment and then saw that you said it gives you goosebumps! We used to do that at my church, love it! Thanks!

Thanks Angie. Like I said, it wasn't really planned or anything. I just finally did it. I have plans to do more now that I am a pro (JK).

Like I told Otha, just do it. Just press the record button. It is always the anticipation that is the worst part.
