Does it cound as retired if you never really had a job in the traditional sense? LOL

Hubby worked in IT until he went almost blind, and is now on SSI + Disability + VA Benefits (he's also a Viet Nam Vet), and I've been legally blind all my life, so I collect disability payments from the Canadian government.

I have a strong belief in the non-existance of authority, so I believe that for me it's better to live on a low income (I'm the cheapest person I know so it's easy) but live free, than to make "good money" but be at the mercy of some employer who I may not always agree with.

Besides, walk into a job interview with a white support cane, and they start asking all kinds of stupid questions, and treat a person differently. Yeah there are a few things I can not do, but there are a lot of things that I can do even better, because I've had to adapt in my own life.

If they're going to interrogate me because of a physical challenge, they're just going to have to do without me.

Hubby got sick and tired of all the office politics he had to experience over the years, and going blind was almost a relief to him. A good excuse to retire!

When we lived apart (while he was still working he was in the USA and I still had a place in Canada) we paid two sets of rent, two sets of utilities, and two sets of living expenses. Now his income has gone down some, mine has gone up some, but he still brings in twice what I do, so the two of us living in ONE apartment with ONE set of utilities, and small living expenses for two people, is a no-brainer.

Suppliment that with BOTH of us working madly on Gather, and a few other sites, and you've got even more money.

People give us all kinds of crap for renting this little apartment instead of building up equity in a bigger place.

Well along with that equity we'd have to pay:

taxes
Insurance
Maintainence
Water
Mortgage

...and a lot of other things that we do not have to pay living in here, meaning we'd both have to go (back) to work, and slave away for some boss, when too much of it would go to the govt. anyway!!!

So these two anarchists figure "what the heck! Live on disability, and stimulate the ecconomy."

It's not "much" by most standards, but we spend what we need to, and our savings are mostly made up of what we earn on line, so we think of it as a "monthly stimulus package."

Freedom is never boring. Not being some bosses slave is something that will never bore me. Thank God for disability! :)

Krystal, what did your Mom get you at the store?

Coffee was really good today. I had a mocha latte with whipped cream and chocolate curls on top, and a gingerbread cookie (it was almost too cute to eat!).
