Where did I say Obama "wrote the bill?" I write about "what he's done," regarding the bill. He's had congressional Dems, and every type of lobbyist, come to the WH for negotiations. He brought the head of the CBR to the WH, also regarding the health care bill. The same health care industry made contributions to Obama's campaign, as well as congressional Dems.

My point is simple: Once he signs it, he OWNS it. Ted Kennedy had more to do with writing "No Child Left Behind," and yet Bush got all the blame, when nobody liked it. The fact is that Obama has meen "managing" this mess, every time the congressional Dems came to an impasse, among themselves. You can't deny that, Larry.

There's also a built-in political problem: how will it look for a GOP majority Congress to repeal "benefits" that people have all ready been taxed for, after the '10 elections? Machiavellian, is all I can say.

Here we are, over a year later, and Obama's ticked off the far left, as well as moderate conservatives. I can't believe what he's done with the health care bill. It's going to be a monstrosity, that will contribute to the anti-Dem backlash, I think. Really, they're screwed if they do, or if they don't pass it. Howard Dean tried to give them "cover" to kill it, but Obama is the President. They all see the writing on the wall, which is why you see Dems "retiring," or switching parties in opposition. The rest look like lemmings going off the cliff. We're only a quarter of the way through Obama's first term, and there's time for him to recover, if this bill dies in conference. If it passes, everyone's problems with the health care system will be his problem.

You know how annoying it's already gotten to hear Obama say "I inherited that problem?" Imagine how that's going to sound, after all of the political capital he spent to pass this "bill" (which we still haven't seen). People aren't going to accept "you'll be covered in 3 or 4 years," when they need coverage now. Count on the far left to harp on this, as conservatives rail against the taxes, which start immediately.

My buddy Greg has a post on how Pres. Obama is dealing with Iran, and I cited this post in a comment. I was right on that point, but he has shown resolve on some national security/war on terror matters, just not this one, which is pretty big.

I made that prediction in a column titled OBAMA vs. McCAIN: Who's Worse For America? It's still a good read, especially my list of complaints about McCain. We'll never know about that, but I was pretty "on target" with my critique of Pres. Obama.

Hey, it's the new year. Let's see what happens. I think that Obama will vacillate, and Israel may act. We may find Europe supporting Israel more than the OA, or at least condemning them less, if they do. One thing I've noticed about the OA is that they have occasionally done the right thing for our security, such as the killing of the tanker pirates, or the ongoing "drone" assaults on the terrorists in Waziristan, and parts of Yemen.

Don't get me wrong. I'm no fan of the Administration's foreign policy. I believe he has been "had for breakfast" (to quote one of my campaign predictions) by almost every hostile power on Earth. We still have brunch, lunch, and dinner ahead of us, in the next three years. I'm (still) hoping that this is a "weak mask," and the resolve he's shown against his party's left wing will grow. He could be like Jean Kirpatrick, and have a total "conversion," for all I know. What I do know is that a party change in either the House or Senate will help him, or force him deal with Iran. Even in the current body, there is a bill to ban imports of gasoline into Iran.

Obama has passed his rhetorical "deadline," which was the new year. His half-measures will not fly on the home front, while he's trying to please "the world." It will be another "interesting" year, for sure.

Simple. If they don't put it up for bidding, then all of the pols can't get in on the scam. I'm sure other manufacturers contributed to their political "representatives," trying to get the contract. The crime is that Schumer claims credit for "bringing home the bacon" to NY. As a NY'er, I'm outraged that he has any influence over the "bidding" process. It's wrong, even if he didn't, because then, he's just lying about his influence.

To clarify: O'Reilly's attitude comes from Adam's act at the AMA show. I disagree with him making a broad generalization from one performance. I just used the "pinheads and patriots" label as a device, which I admittedly lifted from O'Reilly. In a broader context, we're all "pinheads" and "patriots" to different degrees, under different definitions. This is my subjective view, limited to this situation. I am a big Adam Lambert fan.

Good point, Shun. I wasn't commenting on O'Reilly's personal life, though, and he wasn't commenting on Adam's. I like both of their "public" sides, which includes things like charity, but don't know enough to say anything about either of them, personally.

Since all parties have these problems, I guess it boils down to who has more passionate voters, that will come to the polls? I never understood how so many factions/interests could call themselves Democrats, when most of them are on different sides of so many issues.

There's nothing wrong with the Tea Party movement. There's three basic principles: Less government, lower taxes, and follow the rules (ie; the Constitution). I thank you, Helen, for publishing this. One of the reasons Bush's poll numbers tanked was the loss of these very same people, for grossly violating at least two of the above-mentioned principles.

For a long time, these people have voted Republican as "the lesser of two evils." Well, they're sick of it. As new groups try to claim "leadership," they will be scrutinized, and tossed aside, if found wanting. This kind of thing is to be expected, but not tolerated, by the "grass roots." Let there be no doubt, though, this is a wide movement, with real people at the "roots."

I'm with the scanners, but they should also profile on any number of factors, including behavior. There are many ways to "pre-screen" the majority of passengers, but behavior analysis in the airport is also needed. I know it sounds like "profiling," and it is. I don't think the TSA screeners are able to do this, under current rules, or trained to do it. Scanning everyone is probably better than the current mess, but I haven't flown in 20 years, so I wouldn't know.

Then Douglas is making a "theoretical psychoanalysis" of O'Reilly that I disagree with. That applies to Chayne's comment, as well. Not that there's anything wrong with doing that. I already stated my analysis of his attitude.
