Hi Linda
Thank you for this wonderful tribute to a really life changing writer.
She changed my life.
I will always remember how Her words held my attention. As I read I could feel the changes within me.
Well, truth be told, she didn't change me...she awoke something deep down inside of me and she could explain to me the emotions that I had been having. I knew that there was something wrong in society but I couldn't work it out.
As I read everything fell into place.
I will always admire her passionately and will apply her philosophies to the hilt.

I made my comment because I've been to the States 13 times and have met, on all occasions, the most wonderful people.
There is nothing wrong wiith discussing politics in school but I do feel worried when, in a major democracy, one man only is singled out for praise.
I also think that it's a bad message to kids that all you need to do is promise a Utopia and you get applauded as a major achiever.
When I went to school, I got marks for what I did and not for what I promised.
When Obama actually achieves something big on his own, then I'll write a little praise poem for him. That's a promise.

America is in a bit of trouble. There are many issues to face. To an outsider the constant snipning by the Democrats against the Republicans and vive versa is like re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic.
If any child of mine is made to sing praise songs to anyone who has merely made promises and actually achieved very little, I'd call for a special PTA meeting pronto.
I gave a more full reply in response to April's article.
Thank you Ruthi for those latest and the older song words. The Obama song is the sort of thing that you get in socialist states.

I'm with you all the way. First of all, something like this should be preceded by several PTA meetings. The teachers are merely custodians of the children. They aren't the opinion-shapers.
I think that many of the commentators are very naive and don't see the greater picture IMHO. The first thing to understand is that Obama is a President and acts after long long discussions in the halls of politics. He's doing nothing on his own. If he did he would be a dictator...making the songs of praise very dangerous.
As a Senator he proposed only one motion in four years and lost.
PS What has Obama actually achieved? From where I sit I don't see much. They praised Washington for what he actually did but these transcribed religious songs are for what Obama has only shown some intentions...not actual deeds.
This simply doesn't make sense.

Hmmmm Susan....let me reflect on your question.
Look I'm one of the 2006 and 2997 Gatherites. We were all very interested in our writing abilities. By that I mean our real abilities and the scope of our thinking.
So the kind of comments that I would like would be as it was then. If you have any guidance for me then pease tell. If you admire something special then please elaborate.
If I've failed somewhere then tell me about it and give me your ideas. I still often do this for other writers. It's a kind of habit. One that helped me tremendously.

I think that it's a good writing exercise to look at things from a different viewpoint. Like what would a young fox really be thinking about. Mainly it's a bit of satire.

I meant that eagerness to apply to the eyes. Perhaps my idea should have been stated like this "In anticipation, you eagerly stared at..." but I've said enough. It's your beautiful poem and it must remain your creation.

How wonderful. My kind of story. I loved it.
I'm aways amazed how simmilar the folk tales of many countries are. It's as if there is a common denominator amongst all of the people of this world.
I suggest that all four of the lines taken from the rock should be in italics...not just the first two.
I've read the discussions above on squinting etc and what you've written works well. I would have taken another route and written "Eagerly, in anticipation, you stare..." It would express more clearly to me how the knight was feeling.
Second last line : that word "pelf"? You got me there.
Dear Sveta I would have merely applauded but you did ask for a critique. I hope that you don't mind my comments. They are well meant.

Thank you for asking. My back is making a great recovery and I'm already nearly back to normal.
The epic clash of the Titans takes place in Hamilton about 18 hours from now. Doooooooon'y miss it. If you give up everything and run off with our Morne Steyn won't blame you. *smile*

Having just recovered from my back op, I'm also into this walking thing but at the moment I'm more Carolyn than Bob....but give me time.
You didn't see about 20 very handsome hunks anywhere, did you? They would be the South African Rugby Springboks...very recently in Oz.
Good walking and hopefully many beautiful rests in between.

I've been off-line because my motherboard failing and I came back last niight to hear this sad news. I've had tears in my eyes ever since. In a short time she had become very special.
I know that God wanted her for a reason. I console myself with that thought.
