Dear Ann,

More than 95% of Gujarati literature remains untouched. Firstly, Gujaratis are highly business-oriented, secondly like myself there are a handful of those who have mastery over Gujarati and English, thirdly the publishers in Gujarati are highly negative. This dearth of good quality translation or 'transcreation' which is better, will continue.

On hundreds of occasions, I have proven my knowledge of Hindu mythology and religion far superior to my close friends, all Hindus who didn't know anything of Islam. Thus such an insult would not appear like an insult to me... hence I didn't respond. Your second post seems so humble, I had to respond !

Kat, looking at the history of civilisation, animals seem to be more peace-loving than us.
All we have done is get into battles, wars, riots, arson, looting, raping, maiming, killing and things that animals don't do to one another. I am fast losing respect for superpowers that encourage wars in other countries where innocents are maimed or killed or tortured daily. What is most frightening is the universal silence.
What a sick place we inhabit !

I have done 'transcreation' work earlier here for two years... from 2006 onwards.
Just dredge thru' My Posts and click on any transcreation.
That would be a labor worthwhile! Some of the best poets writing in Urdu and Gujarati have been transcreated with notes on their biographies.

My pleasure re-starting the series of exposing the lesser known masters.
No Ann, at Wikipedia, I will have to put up the pages for the likes of Bephaam,
time permitting. Most of the entire body of work Gujarati literature lies untranslated.
Many sufi thinkers have been poets in this tradition, and one by one I shall uncover
there here. Great souls, all.

Very interesting, educative and enlightening, Doc.
I find it difficult to warm up to this icy cold man with a stare that can freeze a river in spate.
His KGB background and the recent unnecessary ruthlessness he showed in wiping out two entire cities in Georgia/Abkhazia region, lowered his status several notches in my eyes. His style of functioning is reminiscent of Saddam Hussein and other megalomaniac egotists. I'd feel happy if he didn't return to power.
