Just saw Avatar last night, in 3-D.
I'd have to admit it was a superb retelling of Fern Gully + Last of the Mohicans + Dances with Wolves + Little Big Man + Lord of the Rings, but such an incredible experience that this was easily overlooked.

This: "Yes, the world can be uncertain and depressing, but that is no reason for ugly superheroes to have sex." might very well be my favorite line of the entire review list, but I loved it all, Lisa.

NObody can shred a lame movie better than you and you spare me from wasting precious time and money in a theatre.

But, just for the record, this was a mere 2-hour gig; no blisters or blood, just fun. If I'd been able to stay until midnight, then I might have had a few injured digits.

You're one of the very few who have endured my fiddling and lived to tell the tale, Donna -- that alone makes the memory stand out.

I love these dances and hope to participate in many more of them this year. Perhaps when you come out this way, the timing will be right for one?
(Oh, how I wish you could be here for Old Songs! This is the 30th anniversary year for that festival!)

Your photos are stunning, as usual, Roy.

Snowmen are fun; we get to be connoisseurs of snow creature design some years, but even the best of them can be impossible to photograph well. I was wondering whether this was the only really clever one, or if it was just hard to get a satisfying image off the others?

I wish whoever did the write-up on Wakehurst would hire you to come and get some worthwhile photos for that site! The write up was informative, but some accompanying photos would have enriched it a thousandfold.

Galahad posted this video to his photobucket account, so I tried that, first, without success. Then I uploaded the thing from computer to here as a video and it worked, so I linked it to an article -- one to another, both on Gather.

Aniko, I own 3 skirts and a dress all specifically purchased for taking part in these dances -- the skirts are so cool as they swirl!

Actually, a lot of the men who contra dance a lot will wear skirts because it gets really hot in the summertime with the dances going on for so long. Contra dancing at Old Songs is a given; lots of skirts.

These folks are mostly experienced dancers, but there is always instruction given at the start of a dance, and they pair up newbies with "old hands" to help keep it fun and flowing. I'm not great at these dances, but never feel unwelcome or in the way.
