There are so many, it really depends on your reading preferences. This is the link to the banned and challenged classics. On this list I have read many of them, but re-read many times, Catch-22, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

The ALA has a whole section on banned/challenged books and segregates them by year and puts why they were challenged. For a current selection I have chosen Crank by Ellen Hopkins for banned book week.

Lea - Thanks for your insight. I feel certain that it is more a case of the individual manager not wanting to do their job than the entire company. Even if the company direction was to filter all author contact through the corporate offices, the manager could have taken two minutes to tell me that herself or asked me to return at a more convenient time. The last thing she should have done was to delay all of the customers who were waiting to make purchases because she was making the cashier be the spokesperson.

Cindy - Understand exactly what you mean. For the purposes of marketing you almost have to brand (or label) yourself, but I find that I am morphing into different avenues as well. Maybe that's why some writers work under several different pen names. They can brand each pen name as a particular type and then when they want to switch genres, no big deal, whip out the next pen name.

Thanks Enoch. So far it is moving along, but they holidays slowed things down just a tad, plus, I actually have to wait for the readers to read the book before passing it on, so my patience gets tested. Other than that, I am pleased with the progress so far.

When getting an idea for a book (fiction), I write down a brief paragraph of the idea. For me it's a long time from idea to actual writing because I have so many other projects that I'm working on and a full time job, etc., plus, I have to let the idea take root and the characters develop in my mind before I can put a word on the page.

When I am ready to start working on the idea, I write down the basic plot points that I want to cover because it helps to solidify what my my feelings are about where I think the book will be going and makes it easier to see whether it flows or not, so yes, I do start with a loose outline of sorts. I tend to think of it as the bare bones on which to hang the story.

Once I actually start writing, I review the outline, start putting words on the page and promptly forget the outline and let the characters take me where they will. I don't check back to the outline until after I finish because a story that takes on a life of its own is the goal - as that is the story that wants to be told.

I do sometimes use structured outlines for non-fiction (business) writing, but that never satisfies the creative urge.

I used to have to start writing on paper and then after a page or two transfer to a keyboard, but now, I start with the cursor blinking on a blank page and just let it flow. It is so much easier to let things flow out through my fingers and I can almost keep up with my thoughts that way. Occasionally I will move chunks of writing around to restructure the flow, but most of my editing is tweaking words here and there.

I really like Kathy's eyes closed method. I may have to try that.

Nan ~ Thanks so much for your comments. To me writing is not a competition (except with myself). I truly enjoy other people's works and I like to be able to encourage other authors to continue on writing. After all, I would yearn for more variety if all I had to read was my own work.

As a reviewer, there is a fine line between summarizing the story and giving too much away and I may have erred on the side of not giving too much away in this review. With a children's picture book, there are not many words per page and not many pages in the book, so it is difficult to balance on that line.

Growing up in my family we had red fur elf pants (small) and they hung by the suspenders. The things that went in our "stockings/pants" were Christmas taffy candies, hard candies like butterscotch and root beer, peanuts, a candy cane, and at the very top an apple & orange. Of course, once all that was in, they no longer hung from the fireplace mantle, but were laid out on a couch or chair and that is where we would find our "Santa" gifts.

It looks like her hair is skinned back so tight that it is giving her a non-surgical face lift. . .maybe that's how she's smiling. :) I used to have the same problem when my mom would put my hair in a pony tail as a child.
