I understand your question, yes you can help locally and invest that money here at home, our programs are tax deductible (we are a 501 Charity Organization), all the expenses even the airfare you can deduct from your taxes at the end of the year. 80% of what you pay goes directly to the programs abroad and the local economy (food, clothes, school text, malaria, tuberculosis, yellow fever medicine, to build wells for water, build orphanages for children that have lost there parents to wars, HIV, and many other issues that our country dosen't have, that's why we need to have a more global view because at the end, the issues and problems from other countries and continents will affect us at home in the future. In the US we don't have children dying because of lack of food, or because of dirty drinking water (many children die of diarrhea) or malaria (easy to solved with a vaccination), any many many many other easy fixable issues. That's why we need to send people abroad and show them the real picture of whats happening overseas.

The amount of orphans in the world is staggering. In our host countries where we offer programs, there are over 200,000 Chilean orphans, over 2 million Peruvian street children living in extreme poverty, and an estimated 8 million AIDS orphans in Uganda, Kenya and Ghana.

According to the ONE campaign, Around the world, more than 100 million children are not in school and more than 60 million of these children are girls. Whether a boy or a girl, every child deserves the chance to go to school and have a hopeful future.
