Yep, I don't wear socks with 'em (except maybe 'no-show' socks w/athletic shoes). It's kind of redundant. I don't think it's too soon, though. Lot's of guys are starting to give it a try, and the ones who've been wearing them for awhile are starting to venture out into the open more. There's much less likelihood of people assuming it means they're cross dressing or such. Much more awareness of the trend these days.

Check out an article that ran today in the Life Section of the Santa Barbara News Press (www.newspress.com). It's really positive about men's shapewear and legwear. I was interviewed for it, too.

Thanks for the feedback. We sell a pretty large number of pairs just by marketing them to regular guys who have a need because of aching, tired legs, and for athletic/outdoors benefits, too. Don't know that we want to market directly to cross dressers though. If they want to purchase for that purpose, that's fine. But focusing on that market would be counterproductive to attracting customers in those other groups I think.

You know, anytime something radically new starts to emerge on the scene, people tend to resist it. But, with as many guys who complain of tired, achy feeling legs (whether because of getting a little older, having jobs on their feet all day, etc...), there are more who are wearing some sort of non-medical support hose--similar to what women have had available to them for years. So, does that mean that if a guy needs them in order to not have the leg discomfort or pain, he can no longer wear shorts?

That's the reason for the growing men's legwear trend. Not everyone's going to wear sheer black hose like I am in the example here. However, I'm kind of out there on the edge, while many, many others are just wearing less noticeable skintone hose and nobody really even notices. And, yes, it does help if you do something about leg hair. Not necessarily shaving it... you can just give it a trim and it's short enough that it doesn't show up. A bunch of leg hair matted under hose would definitely not be very good looking.

What you ladies need to realize is that there are many thousands of average guys that are now wearing nylon hose--it's just that only a minority of them are having the confidence in themselves yet to wear them with shorts. Well, thanks for sharing your experiences, Kevin. I suspect there are MANY men out there who have worn, or continue to wear, pantyhose--either the men's varieties that ActivSkin sells, or women's brands. My goal is to use my unique position as the 'point man' for a men's pantyhose company to set an example that will encourage and embolden these other guys to take a chance and venture out in public with their nylons on for their friends and co-workers to see (if they work in an environment where shorts are permitted).

I think most guys who wear hose are afraid they'll be instantly and permanently labeled as some sort of freak if they do so, and they can't work up the nerve to do it. That's why I believe The Nylon Gene will turn out to be an important catalyst in the evolution of this trend. Anyone can clearly see from the photos I've posted that I go pretty much anywhere without regard to the fact that I'm wearing hose that are highly noticeable in most cases. Even when it's not highly noticeable, anyone who pays close enough attention can see what I'm wearing.

In addition, I try to share my experiences and how favorable a reception I've received from all those I encounter--including close friends, family, and former co-workers. If a small number of guys are positively influenced to follow suit, others will draw courage from them as well, leading to even more guys visibly wearing legwear and being seen. This will eventually produce a 'domino' effect and men's legwear will come to be seen as about as noteworthy as seeing a guy wearing an earring is these days.

So, take courage!

Thanks Kevin (and jewi lim). It may be tough in the sense that changing the mindset of so many men to set aside all their bias against any article of clothing that once was associated with women's wear--but it's also pretty fun, too. It's rewarding when we see notice taken of our efforts, in the form of published articles that are getting more than surface info. That's when I can tell I'm getting the message out there, that suppor legwear has beneficial uses for many men, if only they can objectively look beyond superficial hangups and give it a try.

Hi Jon. Welcome to the discussion. This is certainly a very good time to be one of the many men who are wearing tights/pantyhose these days. There seem to be so many who are either adopting the trend, or have been doing so for awhile (such as yourself) and are now feeling emboldened to let the secret out of the bag. This is in large part because there has been so much publicity about it over the past year or two, and most of it has been positive, or at least neutral.

I haven't been keeping close tabs on the discussion here on my Gather page so much lately (I do get e-mail notices of new comments), because most of the discussion is now taking place over at The Nylon Gene (www.nylongene.com), where I've been hosting discussion on all things legwear for the past two months. I would encourage you to visit, and also have your new bride take a look, too. It's geared mostly toward those who either don't wear legwear and are curious, or are maybe new to it, as well as loved ones of those men who are/have been wearing hose for some time now.

Thanks for the feedback. Interestingly enough, you're going to be seeing a lot more evidence of my campaign to redress these negative attitudes towards men's legwear. As of this past week, I've joined Comfilon/ActivSkin as their marketing/publicity director. It will be my task to try and shape the discussion that is going on in this area, and thereby improve the lot of all the men out there who have been afraid of being stigmatized for what is a legitimate clothing item for both men and women.

I don't have too much time to write right now, but you'll soon be seeing some more blog activity on my part. Take care and hang tough!

Yes, now I see what you're referring to in the pic. It does look like form fitting tights--which is probably what was worn back then. They didn't have stretchy nylon-spandex like we're blessed with now. The rich folks might have had a more refined and thinner fabric.

Paul, you can find out for yourself how comfortable it would feel to wear tights or hose with shorts just be giving it a try. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to work your way up to it. I was just out the other day in a pair of shorts and sheer black ActivSKins and stopped at Staples to return something, browsed for a few minutes at Barnes & Noble, and then stopped at our local grocery store to pick up some bread. You would be surprised to see how few people even so much as glanced or did double-takes at my legs. Yes, there were probably a few quick glances, but nothing more. And remember, I was wearing BLACK, so there was no question about it. The thing is, men's legwear is turning a corner in public acceptance. People no longer are shocked and surprised to see a guy wearing legwear anymore. Go ahead, wear what you want... see what happens.

BTW, I must divulge one of the reasons I was wearing something that was so noticeable. I had just returned from a meeting with the owner of ActivSkin Legwear and had accepted an offer to join the company as director of marketing. So, now I have a very vested interest in furthering the public acceptance of men's legwear. It's happening. So if anyone else reading this has been tentative about giving it a try and going out wearing tights or hose, all I can say is 'Give it a try and see what happens' You'll be glad that you did.

Just a quick note to 'I do not purr...': Before trying to use the Bible to condemn by way of contrast, best do a little research. I didn't even have to go look this one up. You're referring to Abraham who was ordered by God to kill his only son Isaac as a sacrifice. If you read the whole passage, you learn that an angel stopped Abraham just beforehand, as it was meant to test his obedience to God. He did not kill his son, and used a ram caught in nearby bushes for his sacrifice.

I hate to wade in on this because there's just SO much discussion that I couldn't hope to read it all (I'm not even keeping up with my own Gather page all that well), BUT I just want to make one point. Most Christians such as myself (traditional Roman Catholic, BTW) would probably not get so worked up over this issue if it were just one of having civil unions between gays... property rights, all that stuff... What people like myself take such issue with is the co-opting of what we Catholics refer to as the SACRAMENT of Holy Matrimony (aka marriage). The reason it should be reserved to one man and one woman (excludes the polygamy thing, too) is because it (the sacrament) is intended for the purposes of unity and procreation, just as the sexual act within marriage is intended. By taking it out of that context (and this isn't some thing based on one obscure verse somewhere, either) the sacred union that was ordained by God for the creation of children and unifying of the man/woman is profaned. Of course, by this measure there are many heterosexual marriages that also profane God's sacred intent. Don't think that Britney Spears and her Las Vegas weddings don't also do the same damage to the sacrament.

The bottom line is that what is happening with gay 'marriages' does have an erosive effect on the sanctity of marriage, (as do the many heterosexual sham marriages) and it's not necessary to have that in order for them to attain their goals. They can have legally recognized unions that can convey property rights or whatever, without calling it 'marriage'. Unfortunately, while Christians are constantly being told to lighten up and be sensitive to the needs of the other side, no one on the other side of this issue is willing to be sensitive to the fact that what is being done is perceived by us as a willful slap in the face, intended to degrade what we consider to be holy.

It is quite possible to oppose legalizing homosexual marriage without favoring, or engaging in, persecution of homosexuals. I oppose it, but I have never engaged in insulting words or behavior to a homosexual, nor do I favor descrimination in employment or housing based on this. As one who promotes furthering the acceptance of men's wearing pantyhose/tights (as you know from my Gather page), I'm far from being close-minded. But, it's unfortunate that we've come to the point in our culture where it is virtually impossible to engage in any contra discussion of this issue without being labeled a hatemonger. Although there are certainly vivid examples of Christians out there who are far from the true practice of their faith, my experience tells me that the majority of us live by the precept of 'love the sinner/hate the sin.'

don't know why it's so difficult for so many people to get this concept. I've known of people who have engaged in extra-marital infidelity, whom I can still associate with. There can be no doubt that I disapprove of their actions, but that doesn't mean that I disown the person who did it. Christ would have us do no less... but He would also challenge the sinner to, "... go and sin no more." (Jn 8:11)

I think most true Christians would not get so worked up about the whole gay issue, if it weren't for the fact that they are being forced to have their children indoctrinated on the goodness of homosexuality against their will, and feeling powerless to stop it. People who try to simply compete in the public forum of ideas are being 'silenced' by new and ever more pervasive laws against 'hate speech' that can be applied to most anyone, such as a pastor who simply reads one of the passages from the Bible that proscribe homosexual acts. Where's the tolerance in that?

Our country was founded on the principle that all ideas have a right to be challenged in the public forum. Those that cannot stand on their own merits should not be given unfair protection from criticism by unconstitutional laws. That's how communism and fascism managed to prosper despite their flaws. Let's not do so with this issue by labeling anyone who disagrees with unfair labels.
