Great article Cheri! If repubs would take a longer view, instead of just whining and obstructing, substantive change could finally occur. They've been far too greedy, venal, hypocritical, uncharitable, and downright cruel for far too long! Be honest, Republicans, this is your mantra,
"I've got mine, screw you!"

I closed ALL my Citigroup accounts long before this egregiousness. I knew who and what they were years ago when they took over a local bank where I was a customer. I couldn't wait to get away from them! In the intervening years, I've closed every account that turned out to be THEM. That includes, Home Depot and Macy's. Now that you've brought this current outrage to our attention, I'm so grateful I did that!!

I concur with your advice. Even though it's less convenient, close your Citicards and all tangents in Citigroup, because these guys don't get it. I can't deny I'd like some company. When I closed all my Citi accounts, I wrote letters to them and explained why I'd taken such an action. I explained it wasn't about money since I didn't owe them any money. It was the way they treated me. In predictable fashion, no one from Citi ever wrote me any sort of personal letter - apologizing or otherwise! No attempt was made to woo me back or whatever. My solitary letter(s) meant/mean(s) nothing to this corporate behemoth...but all of YOUR letters and cancellations MIGHT just get their attention!

Hey, am I the only person who liked Crash? I also liked Million Dollar Baby. I agree with you about No Country For Old Men and The Departed. And what about last year's, There Will Be Blood? OMG! I couldn't stand the soundtrack from the very first frame - and the entire experience didn't improve over THAT film's epic length.

It seems as if "epic length" is a factor in nominations. My most hated film, The English Patient, is just such a film. No redeeming value - but it is VERY long. Benjamin Button is also very long, so maybe that's part of it's success. Granted, I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was all that special - except for the special EFX. Brad Pitt is a likable enough fellow - but his make-up did most of the acting in BB. One friend remarked to me - and it may have some merit - that this character is just learning about life when our expectations are that he's mature. His lack of depth and range result from his being a naif inside an adult body. Whatever.

I'm sure this Academy Awards show will thrill and disappoint, just like always. I vote in the Screen Actors Guild awards and that was my experience there. My only agreements with my fellow actors were Meryl Streep, Heath Ledger, Tina Fey and Dark Knight (Stunt Ensemble).

One of the biggest disappointments there was that Mad Men won so many awards. I've tried to watch that show and can't figure out what's so great or interesting about it. It's a gigantic bore. I realize that's a very unfashionable thing to say - but I call 'em like I see 'em.

Another disappointment is that, again, The Closer was robbed of television's "Best Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series" award! The cast of the Closer TRULY operates as an ensemble where many other shows have two or three person scenes - rarely the whole cast. The Closer does - and does it brilliantly! Shame on my fellow SAG members for blowing it yet again.

LOVE THIS!!! I've been looking into Green Burial for several years now, having determined, after I first heard about it, that that's how I wanted to go. Your idea is awesome! You should send it to the Obama administration as I'm sure they'd, at least, be open to the idea!

Thanks also for mentioning how polluting cremation is. I know it's the fashion these days - partly because it's less expensive - but you are dead-on correct (no pun intended) about how much better, environmentally, green burial is!

As for expense, I believe green burial is much less expensive than traditional burial. If your idea were implemented, I think the cost would probably go down further.

Great review DD! I didn't think I would like this film but found Mickey Rourke's performance amazing and visceral! I was stunned to find myself crying when he did, aching when he did, etc. The Ram's loneliness and desperation were palpable. I haven't felt a performance like that in many a year! Bravo to Mickey Rourke! Bravo to your wonderful review!

Well, what a disappointment. I enjoyed the series and was hoping the movie would be a hoot. There does seem to be some difference of opinion on this one, so I'll probably see it. Let you know what I think. (Should've had a spoiler alert, though.)

Count me as a tattoo bigot. I think they look terrible - no matter how pretty the picture.

Besides, for those who care, the Bible forbids tattoos. Pagans wore them so, like most things forbidden in the Bible, this too, is forbidden to create separation from Pagan behavior.

I believe we're all born just as beautiful/handsome as we need to be.

What a very sad loss. I mostly liked Minghella's films - except for the awful "The English Patient." I went to a screening of "Cold Mountain" where Mr. Minghella held a Q & A afterward.

The moderator was from Daily Variety and she called on other women who raised their hands to ask Mr. Minghella a question - pure happenstance, I'm sure. After several questions, a guy sitting near me angrily pointed out the disparity and insisted he be recognized and offered a chance to ask his question.

After being reproved, the moderator graciously allowed the man his moment. Big mistake. This guy had a completely unintelligible question. He rambled on and on about very micro- technical matters - though not making much sense. When he was finished, the very gentlemanly, courteous Minghella, who was just as bewildered as the rest of us, started his answer with " Uh...uh...uh...I'm not sure what to say." Something possessed me (irritation was some of it) and I hollered out "This is why they let the women ask the questions." The entire audience (except for the questioner) the moderator and Anthony Minghella erupted in loud guffaws! It was a deeply satisfying moment for me - one I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Great review of a great woman, DD! I, too, had the pleasure of seeing this show and getting to know a whole lot more about Joan Rivers. I'd known about her husband's suicide - but I didn't know much about the Carson thing. Her life really was - and is - extraordinary! She's proof of the indominable human spirit!

Apparently, Mary-Kate Olsen was dating Heath Ledger - as well as renting an apartment in a building she owns in NYC. It's not fishy - just stupid. I can't figure out why these people didn't call 911 right away? If controlling the release of the information is what they were about, they did a terrible job since Ledger's parents found out he was dead from a radio report!

What the hell is wrong with you jJack Midknight? Are you another adult two-year old? Go to MySpace and hang with your peer group. We'll both be happier.

As for those...ugh..."Christians" who plan to picket Ledger's funeral, I believe there's an excruciatingly hot corner of Hell waiting for all of you! "Vengeance is MINE" sayeth the Lord. That means - for those who don't seem...or want... to understand - that GOD is in charge of judgement - NOT you or I.

When religiously fanatical people seek to commandeer a task God says is...GOD's, it ALWAYS ends badly and, like Don pointed out, alienates sane and reasonable people from organized religion!

Instead of picketing, those folks should stay home and search their souls for why they hate so many people..especially when Jesus told them to love one another! Shirley Phelps and her group should be deeply ashamed of themselves!

Heath Ledger's death is a tragedy - period. I personally believe his death was accidental. I had the fleeting pleasure of attending a Q & A with him and Michelle Williams when they were still together. My impressions were that he was a down-to-earth, shy, nice guy - not at all full of himself. He was cordial and personable - in other words, a regular guy.

If it turns out to be suicide - which I truly believe unlikely - his death will be no less tragic. I agree with Digital Dogs and J. Corn that depression is a too-little understood biochemical condition. For those of you who've never experienced depression, it may be difficult to relate or understand the depth of suffering - as well as mental confusion - the disorder causes. I know DD doesn't believe in God, but I do, and agree that no loving God can want any of us to "rot in Hell" eternally. What would be the point of that? God wants us to learn from our mistakes, repent and live a better life. If someone were to truly learn and repent their actions while "rotting in Hell" what purpose would it serve for that soul to remain there? I feel sorry for those who believe in such a cruel Deity.

FYI everyone, whether they own the building or not, those mega-rich twins names are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Heath Ledger was a great talent and what seemed to be a good guy. He'll be missed greatly!
