Nice article. I feel the thyroid thing is often overstated. Wikipedia says that 3% of the population is hypothyroid (more in women after giving birth), which is quite a lot, but that hair loss is one of many less common symptoms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothyroidism . Anyway, of course, yes it needs to be checked, but most often we see female pattern baldness and alopecia areata

I was perturbed the other day to get into conversation with a woman who said she couldn't go out with a bald guy. That really upset me because I really try not to judge people by how they look .. I see genuinely great people all day with bad hair :-) (I work for a hair loss clinic). I mean, a rule like that surely can exclude a load of great people. Then I thought, well, hey, welcome to a woman's world, being judged by their looks all the time.

Once you're aware you start to see it all around. Female Pattern hair loss is the one I notice most. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

This is a common occurrence after pregnancy but you don't have to worry because the hair will usually return back to normal within the year. I'm new here so I don't know if it's bad form to add a link, but let's try and see what happens. There's more info here -
