I am always surprised at the negativity applied to same sex marriage by conservatives. They were the ones who, like you point out, viewed the sexual aspects of 'gay' as the problem. Marriage, as witnessed by the many (yet relatively few) gay couples that have tied the not, is a conservative move towards family values for alternative families. Andrew Sullivan says it well here: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,460232,00.html "Conservatives have long rightly argued for the vital importance of the institution of marriage for fostering responsibility, commitment and the domestication of unruly men. Bringing gay men and women into this institution will surely change the gay subculture in subtle but profoundly conservative ways."

If you can love being by yourself, others will find that in you. I always like you best when you are "present" and humble. Its the creation of those faux personalities that throws people off. Keep it simple, be true to yourself, and you will find a lot of second dates. Try as you might, you can't be all things to all people. You can be everything to a few people, which is a lot simpler and more fulfilling.

Interesting, Jeff. We get a huge report on the "media value" of our PR efforts (which our firm loves to promote of course) that treats media mentions according to their CPM value. For social media, I could see a hierarchy of value placed on positive and negative mentions to value to the effort as whole. You could value difference networks and people within those networks as more or less valuable to the brand. Longer term, you get into my vision of a "personal ad network" where you sell your "space" to marketers based on the value of your influence. Thanks for posting.

I think WOM is part of social media, though Google hasn't figured out a way to tag these conversations yet! Seriously, if there is a way to capture lift and engagement from "non-media" sources, I think that would be very powerful. The medium of words, like the pass-along value of magazines, is a tough to capture but very powerful part of the media mix.

We love that program, and will make it more fun and more visible in the weeks to come. I think that many of the things we "carry" today will be embedded in the future - phones, music players, video devices - they will get smaller and more available to us as part of our bodies. Maybe not as implants, but as components of clothing or other physical objects. As we move from place to place the connections, ubiquitous, will "log you in" to the location for communication purposes. The things that hassle us today -- address books, directions, to-do lists, will all be centrally stored and accessible from any location.
