Matthew, it's my opinion that bad science is bad science and reflects badly on the thousands of reputable, intelligent scientists. But it is also my opinion that stolen emails should be investigated before a final pronouncement of guilt can be reached and that if the researchers are, in fact, guilty of doctoring findings that they be punished appropriately.

Once again, Chuck, thank you. I thought it was me, that I was losing my mind, that everything I had studied and personally observed as far as science is concerned had suddenly taken a sharp left turn away from reality. My field was geology and paleontology so when seemingly sane people began saying with a straight face that dinosaurs and humans co-existed and that the Earth itself was 6,000 years old, I thought I had had a stroke and lost the ability to understand English.

Kushal, the visual that these conjure up for me is, oddly enough, the scene on the lake in the film "Hero". I think it makes me think of the stillness of the woods as something we think of as permanent and the fluidity of the passage of life into death. Death, in this scene, is portrayed as heart-breakingly sad to those alive, but beautiful and natural to the spirit who has died.

This is a wonderful tribute to your dad and to your resilience, Kathryn. I'm touched mainly by the scene you described about him letting you know that he was proud of you and understood why you moved out. The one lesson I've managed to learn so far is that we never know when the last time we see someone or talk to someone will be, so it's important to mend the fences, say what we feel and make sure they know we love them now.

I like the balance of his composition, using the color of the sledge as a counterpoint to the "heavier" or "busier" right side of the painting.

Thanks, Carol, this is an interesting look at the pros and cons of parenting styles. I think I fall mainly into the authoritative style and it seemed to work overall. My husband and I did discover a neat trick to subvert the "divide and conquer" strategy our three children liked to employ; he and I would go into the bedroom, lock the door and discuss quietly what boundaries, punishments or privileges should be meted out, then we sat down with the children together as a united front to let them know what "we" decided. I think Jan is right, above, about children needing some structure and rules and that the best outcome for that is the children realizing, when they socialize with people their own age, that parents who really love their children care what they are doing and care what happens to them.

Thanks, Stephanie! I LOVE Neutrogena products because ours is a house that had four females, all different ages, all different skin types, and the one product we all liked and used was Neutrogena. In winter, being a little older, my skin care includes drinking a lot of water, exfoliating often, using a peel-off mask about once a week, and using moisturizer generously.

How lucky are you????? I love opera and studied at CSU (roughly a hundred years ago, in mom years), and even switched my foreign language in school to French so I could study Bizet's "Carmen". "Barber" is one of my favorites, and the children love that one, too. I can't remember off hand which opera it was, but my girls were watching a video of an opera in French and called me at work to ask me what the English was for a word they were singing that sounded like "potato". I didn't remember any mention of vegetables in the piece, but they kept insisting that they kept singing "potato". It wasn't until I got home and watched a section with them that I realized they were listening to the phrase "peut etre" (perhaps) and hearing "potato".

Sounds like you two had a great time! I finally stopped arguing with the Christmas tree and IM'd my eldest daughter who is usually the one who put it together every year. She told me how to assemble it properly and I think after all the fussing around with it, it finally came out right! LOL.
