Focus should have shifted a long time ago from instant gratification 'more is more' spending (Apparently the US personal saving rate has been below 1% for the past four years) to wise and prudent investments, spending within one's means, and saving for the future. It also needs to shift back to innovation, productivity, growth/increasing market share, and making things.

While I believe it's important to spend most of our time focusing on solutions and successes rather than problems and failures, it's helful to view our so called 'failures' as stepping stones to success. Sometimes in life, if we're not succeeding, we're not failing fast enough.

"Fun" is a relative term and I believe both heroes and villains can have fun. But I think I understand what Paul is getting at. In the short term, villains might enjoy more sensual pleasures through immediate gratifications without regard for other people, but there are long term consequences that can rarely be called 'fun.'
