Right as I started reading your comment I thought, "Duh, the library would have a ton of books that no one ever takes out." Great minds think alike!

I need to do some reading on how to get the same effects in digital that I could get on film. I've had a lot of need at work lately for professional digital pics that I could get on film easily but don't have a clue how to shoot well digitally.

Especially look for ones that talk about The Zone System. It's a system that teaches how to get the widest range of grays in your images for the richest photos. I'm not entirely sure how to apply it to digital, but it should give you an idea of what to look for to create beautiful, rich images.

If you have a used bookstore in town, see if you can find an old-school "Learning Photography) book, from the days of 35mm -- a good one should have some info on lighting, times of day to shoot, using flash, etc. that will still be applicable to digital. I had a couple growing up that helped a lot. I'll show you at Thanksgiving, too.

i don't mind the black bg -- was referring more to things like the really black shadows in the dark green area of the front gourd. I think you would like the image even more if the lighting was a little bit more even overall and not quite such a stark contrast (which is why photographers shoot in at dawn and dusk when the light is soft, rather than at noon when the light is very harsh and contrast-y). Def a nice pic, just trying to help you take it to the next level :)

I like it, but the lighting is a little harsh. Get a large sheet of white foamcore or something like that -- you could place it to the left of the arrangement to "bounce" some of the light back into the shadows so they're not so dark.

New York, for me, is like that really hot model at the party... I'll look, a lot, maybe catch his eye once or twice, give him the time if he asks while he's walking by, but live comfortably with just our brief moments of subtle flirtation, never wanting more.

Providence was my first true love, and always will be. PVD is that boyfriend you let go and always regret. I'm starting to think it might be time to go home to my love. We'll see what the next few months bring.

I realized recently that I didn't actually own an AM/FM radio for my house (wanted to listen to NPR when I'm freelancing, without taking up the bandwidth/processing power of streaming the content online.) Kind of an interesting realization, given that the "old standby" for communication in major emergencies is AM/FM radio. It is something I plan on fixing shortly, especially given Salem's location on the coast and vulnerability to hurricane strikes.

I bought my new car today! And it is never, ever, ever.... ever... going down the road to the hunting camp at Newcomb. Ever. I actually lost a piece of the convertible on that road the year before last.
