Guster news for Sabrina-- we've been writing a ton and it's going super well. By far the most productive and enjoyable writing process the band has ever had!

For those of you who don;t know what Ships and Dip is it is a cruise that Barenaked Ladies and Guster along with several other bands host. Reverb has the daunting task of greening this cruise. Cruises aren;t the lightest load on the environment, so it is a lot of work. The results have been fantastic though! On the last S &D, the bands and fans neutralized 100% of the CO2 from the cruise and all of the flights to and from it.

Liz-- the biggest impact a band can have on tour is influencing their fans. Over 85% of the carbon footprint of a show is from fans driving to and from it. This is why the outreach is so important to us at the show. Not only lessening the impact of the show itself, but inspiring people to make small changes in their lives that add up in a big way.

Dave H (con't)-- There are also guitar string companies that sell strings with less packaging (names escaping me right now). In general woth all purchases you want to consider how much packaging is surrounding the product that ends up on landfill. I don;t think Energy Star has made it's way into the musical world, but certainly look for that tag for appliances--especially if you're buying an air-conditioner!

Dave H-- Two ideas: 1) if you buy a guitar, their are some companies out there making them fro FSC Certified Sustainable Wood. Also, for all those batteries you will end up using up, try using rechargeables--they will save you money and waste at the same time: www.greenbattery.com

Reverb is currently working on Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Panic At the Disco, Blue Man Group, and Cloud Cult. This summer we will be working with John Mayer, Dave MAtthews Band, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows.

Laura P.-- THanks for coming to Guster shows!! Yes, we've been promoting Reverb a bit at our concerts. Have you noticed out "Kiss Me I'm Carbon Neutral" stickers and organic cotton T's? Where Guster and Reverb really come together is the Campus Consciousness Tour (www.CampusConsciousness.org) where REVERB sets up a big Eco-Village at the concerts and has day-time activities like Pimp My Clean Ride Car show and a Town Hall Forum.

Stormy-- we are going to try cloth diapers. It's a tough call, but we're hoping it works for us and the environment. A key to using cloth is to nit wash with hot water and use biodegradable detergent.

To answer the moderator's question about services Reverb provides... we help bands in many different ways to be more green on tour. We'll coordinate biodiesel fuelings, source eco-friendly merchandise, work with caterers for local and organic foods, calculate the carbon footprint and offset it by supporting the construction of windfarms, waste reduction and recycling backstage, etc.

We also do fan outreach at the shows and on line through an Eco-Village and a dedicated band greening website.

She's been an environmentalist for as long as I've been in a band (16 years). I was tired of feeling badly about the negative impact my band's tour had on the road--all the trash on the ground at the end of the night, driving in a big bus all around the country, etc.

The response from music fans has been great! For example on the Dave Matthews Band tour last year over 1.2 MILLION miles of driving were neutralized by the fans alone!
