It has been the habit of government to help and/or bail out huge industries, IE; Housing, Airlines, and the oil industry (which has been feeding off the proverbial tit of the tax payers for 100 years), and it is also not new to see a politician benefit from the bills they propose. $75,000 off a 30 year mortgage is nothing compared to the amounts of cash from crude oil being made by dozens of conservative politicians right now.
The mortgage bill is designed to help those who need help.
I agree that it is also another tool for companies to bail out of responsibilities, but if the policies in place hadn't caused and urged us to rely so much on foreign investors the housing market would still be strong and such bills would not be needed.

Larry,
First, knowing what we know about teens and drunk driving it is very safe to speculate that lives were saved.

Second, well I agree with your second statement....

Third, Videos of drunken behavior will not detour any person from drinking, at least not now in the age of "YouTube", where you can find video on almost any subject and there are quite a few on there of people getting drunk or "embarrassing" themselves, even hurting themselves, badly. And yet with all of this available media kids are still not changing their behaviors.
I believe such videos and images worked in the past, but with the amount of violence on T.V. in a wide array of reality shows, such as "COPS", and "The Worlds Stupidest Criminals", we as a society are being dulled to the point of no reaction, and thats scary.
