Yes, umesh.k, I have heard of Wellington, but have never been there. I did go to New Zealand in 2000 but missed Wellington. I just got back from a 32 day trip to India and Vietnam. Still trying to get back to my usual routine.

Samantha, I'm glad you liked this poem about Alaska. It is a wonderful trip. Too many people just do the inside passage for a week, but it is well worth it to go all the way and do two weeks. And, yes, I believe I do have some other cruising poems. Try "Carribbean Capers" and "Ship's Log in the Carribbean". I also wrote a long one on the 2 month cruise of Asia & the South Pacific and another on the 3 week Panama Canal Cruise. But I don't think I put them on Gather. Didn't think anyone would read any that long. And I did a river cruise last summer from the Black Sea to Amsterdam on the Danube, Main, and Rhine. Very nice. It was a total of 26 days including a pre-trip to Translyvania and a post-trip to Belgium. And during a tour of Turkey, it included a 5 day cruise along the Turquoise coast on a small sailing ship called a "gulet". It was very different from the big ships. Only held 14 of us plus a crew of 5. Oh, yes, I also did a week's cruise in the Agean Sea as part of the Greek tour just prior to the Turkey tour and the river cruise. I was gone a total of 72 days on the three tours. Longest trip I've taken. Next month I'm goin to India and Vietnam. Haven't had time to do anything on Gather since before the trips last summer. Thanks again for reading my poems.

This gets better and better. Forget the age thing. I would have been thrilled if a younger man had asked me out. Instead I ended up with a man 8 years my senior that I met in church. That lasted 9+ years. So don't be in a hurry.

Glad you explained about LTG being "you". I was about to see if I could find him. I know what you went through, sorta. My marriage ended after 28 years.

Enjoyed your article. I've wanted to go to Bali for many years. Made reservations in 1997 following my China trip, but they cancelled it due to the smoke blowing in from the fires that year. Was supposed to stop there on my cruise in 2005 but they by-passed it because of the terrorist attack. I still would like to go, but don't know if I'll ever have the money to do it now. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I always thought I would like a pet monkey. I had one jump into my arms in Peru on the day we were leaving the jungle. Had tried to make friends with him before but he waited until I was cleaned up and ready to leave. It was muddy that day, so guess what....I got muddy. But it was worth it. Our dining "room" was a big circular, open-air pavilion. The monkeys would slip in and eat off the tables when people left, or sometimes before we left.

Those huge roots were absolutely awesome. It's a fascinating place. I was intrigued by the number of ordinary citizens around these ruins that were weeding by hand, sweeping, etc. Your account is enough to make those who have not been there, want to go. Linda, I enjoyed reading about your childhood. How often I've heard my father say, "Children should be seen and not heard". But he didn't send me to my room when company came.

I had a hard time finding this article. Had just wished you a Happy Birthday and wanted to read the article you mentioned. The number was not in "blue" so could not click on to it. Tried to find you under "locate people" but Carol had listed you as Linda L. so it came up "no Linda L from Florida". I was about to give up when I finally found it some other way. Think I searched by name of the article. Anyway, it was nice reading more about you. Hope you are having a happy birthday.

What a delightful story. I petted a koala on Tazmania....maybe your cousin. And I saw your namesake, Uluru. You come from a fasinating country. Loved my 30 day tour there & NZ in 2000. Look forward to more of your escapades with Mr. Bill.

Bill, I so enjoyed this article and the pictures. Reminded me of the time I visited Ankor Wat in 2002. I climbed those steps. Wanted to show the other five in our group that this old lady of 68 could do it. I'm going to print this out and add it to my picture album. It is so informative and interesting. Glad I stumbled onto your writings. Want to join your group. I'm taking off in four days for a 10 week trip that includes Greece & Greek Island cruise, Turkey and a 5 day cruise in a gulet along the Turquoise coast, then Transylvania and a river cruise from the Black Sea to Amsterdam and on to Belgium. Linda, hope you have a very Happy Birthday. I really admire you for all the foster care you have given children. And also for going to college after you were older. I have always regretted not going back and getting my degree. I got married after two years of college. Later I took some continuing education courses to renew my real estate license and a couple courses in religion for the fun of it, but never went to complete my education. You were brave to do that and take care of a family. I think I would like knowing you. I, too, have lots of cook books and love to cook. And I write poetry and occasionally travel articles. Sorry you husband has parkinsons. You two deserve a good and full retirement. God bless you.
