Lisa, this is such a beautiful blending of warm romance and simmering passion, soft glows and flaming hues! Love it! Your knack for expressing the deepest, most beautiful of emotions in the simplest , most direct of words seems to have gone up a few notches with the arrival of a fresh year.

Hi Dianna, poetess extraordinaire! Wish you a very happy, though belated B'day, my friend! From the depths of my heart, sorry for coming so late to the party - but if you'd added me formally as a friend, then you wouldn't have been deprived of my greetings!

(Come to think of it, that could be a blessing in disguise, eh?! Who wants to read mile-long greetings and nonsensical PingPongs every twelve hours?!!! hahaha

I'll be along shortly on one of your prancing pages , okay? It's been a while, and I've missed seeing your poetry. Have you written some new ones?

Hi Chris, and thanks - for beating me to the invite and saving me the reds! hahaha Many friends here and elsewhere have wanted to check out my vocal chords, including my dear friend Stirly, but somehow, the video has got very comfy on the anvil! :)) I'll try this year to make a *good*, listenable, watchable video of one of my fave songs - and then sit back and watch as my friends jump the ship!

Thanks for the interest in my singing, though, Chris - I do have a concert coming up, a very different one for this Rip-Van-Winkle-rock-and-roller - I am going to go up on stage in ten days time and sing a few songs of one the most revered singers of India , K.L. Saigal.

Just my vocals, and nothing else - though I'm very comfortable with that, actually. I have never needed instruments propping me up when I belt those songs out! hehehe

So I need this encouragement from such an unexpected source - there's an entire aviary here flitting merrily about in my belly!

Wish you a very Happy New Year, my new friend - may it bring you the joy and peace which is our deepest craving!

Jenny, this is a lovely nugget of a poem for a lady who's truly the heart of love , a woman whose signature is soulfulness and whose heart is a shimmering night sky of unknown stars!

The last line was so evocative - especially because I've always ever thought of Michelle's eyes as the lovliest full moons - deep, wise eyes brimming with soul and singing such songs!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful tribute to one of the most humane and loving souls I've met here.

Thank you, Chris! It's what I've realised, too, about singing - the sweetness, richness , depth and all the other stirring qualities must first be a part of your very soul, before they can manifest sweetly in your vocals. And even that happens only when the music truly begins to come through you, not from or by you, don't you think!

You are such a fine man, poetic, caring, humane , and with such refined sensibilities. I have always wanted to be your friend, but, as my friend Jenny knows, am too shy to send people invites. Maybe that's my childhood fear of rejection, I don't know - but I'm going to fight it this last evening of the
decade, and send you an invite within the hour, okay?

Hopefully, you won't flee from Gather altogether - "What! Now the Purveyor of the Puerile is after my hide, to?!!!! Run, Chris, Run, get on that time machine and escape to 2012 before this crazy guy catches you!"

Thanks again for this wonderful, wonderful video! Brought back memories from College, when I first started playing their songs on the guitar....

God, that's exactly what I wanted to express so strongly about Karen's magical vocals , Barbara - but you said it so much more evocatively. I thik, along with Eartha Kitt, she was the most evocative voice , ever! Whenever I sing, or indeed, even while playing, it's this magical quality of instant, spontaneous evocativeness that I try to bring to my art.

Just to give you an idea of what her voice could do to me, whatever Karen sang of, I could instantly - instantly! - feel the emotion beginning to swirl soothingly around me like a personal cloak of light....

Kathsie, dearie, I've only read the title of this shocking piece, and a few lines beyond to understand that it's you who's the subject - and I'm compelled to write this soon as the realisation hit!

It is this very strength I sensed so strongly in you, the moment I looked into those timeless eyes of yours for the very first time here. Immense lovliness, yes; wisdom, even more; but far more than all this, an overwhelming strength, a strength not merely to endure trials, but to rise like the phoenix from impossible situations, and inspire others to do the same! God how I adore and admire you for this!

It is why I have always thought of you as the very embodiment of Womanhood, beautiful Womanhood!

I'll shut up now and go back to carefully reading your account - it promises to both educate and inspire! Thank you , thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us, lovely one - you have no idea what a tremendous source of strength you are to me daily - one look at those eyes brimming with strength rejuvenates and motivates me!

It is - and in a subtle yet very powerful way, Stirly. I'm like that, too - obsessed, distracted, half-focussed on the rest of Life - and most of all with music. So that way, the process of creation is alike. It's when the song is over (but is it really, ever?!), that the sense of loss occurs.

The first feeling, powerfully, is - "I'm a woman - I've given birth! Yay!" And I think that is every feeling man's deepest desire , ultimately - to know what a woman really *feels like* inside, to know what it feels like to be a woman. I know for a fact that a woman - any woman, anywhere - goes through in a day what a man will probably never experience in a lifetime - no, not even the most intense, most creative of men. You are Nature, after all.

Anyway, all random sidesteps into pop-philosophy aside, that's how it feels after a new song is kissing the airwaves. It's a couple of plays later that the sense of loss begins to seep in - and to this day, I can't put words to it.

What is lost? The song is still within me, after all, and will always be there in some ephemeral way, as you put it - rollin' and tumblin' in this cosmic ecstasy that has been so much a part of me since forever.

Why is it *lost*? Is it because now it belongs as much to the world, where it once was completely mine to feed, to nourish, to take its stubborn kicks and tumbles inside my soul-womb?

Where has it gone?! If I'm part of the cosmos (as we all are), and if it has only returned to that cosmic Mother who planted the seed in my womb in the first place, then isn't it still mine, in a way?!

A few hundred songs and a million chords later, I still don't know the answer to any of this. And maybe, just maybe, it's best this way! Not to know, not to be able to understand, just feel - with intensity, purity and innocence, what the cosmos has been telling me ever since I kicked in to Life! :)7

Hopefully, you aren't asleep at the office table right now! hahaha I'm no philosopher or intellectual , and never will be - but when something hits me so powerfully, I'm a mere spectator as my heart and mind race each other and the fingers fly!

A very lyrical piece, with lovely images overlying soothing currents beneath! Your way with words has been morphing , slowly but surely, and the most recent poems have begun to showcase a more settled and grounded imagination, yet one which is no less exciting or pleasing.

The metaphor came to me even as I was in the thick of that comment - maybe reading something on a spirituality website about the Earth having auras just like us must have put the analogy into my subconscious.

Susan, and Stirly, this has echoes of an ancient teaching from the Gita - the comment from Stirly that if you hold no expectations, there'll be significantly less stress.

I can vouch for the wisdom and truth in this teaching - it's something I've been privy to for many years now. The original Sanskrit would be gobbledygook for you, but loosely translated (and all looseness completely my fault! :) ) the saying goes thus -

"The fruits of your action are not yours to seek; you own only the action."

Wish you both a wonderful New Year, full of marvel and magic swirling within the mist and the fog (cheeky giggle :) ) .....

Dear Stirly,

This was the best Christmas gift I could have hoped for - to have heard a tribute in verse for my beloved land, in the sweet, compassionate voice of my fave poetess, painting a metaphor for the essence of India through a hue that's always been my favourite since childhood! I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you!

I so relate to very word here, and your reading brought it all home to me - what it means to have been born in this blessed land, to have imbibed the inherent sweetness and compassion, the inbred spirituality and resilience in its air, for so many years.

Sometimes, in surreal visions I've been having for many years now, I've seen this pristine land of ours as the throat chakra of the world. Somehow, your poem - and the lovely tonal inflections you brought to it - vindicated this concept I've had of India.


Wish you a belated Merry Christmas, mon cherie, and hope the festival brought some much needed peace and joy flooding into your beautiful heart. Mine was spent with kids and amongst grime-sodden dreams .... singing carols, listening to some truly wondrous choir-singing, midnight mass at the biggest church here.

Sunaura, this is a lovely video - fascinating for the beauty of the graphics alone. As for the concept of parallel universes, I think that was the single biggest fallacy of scientific thought all these years, the biggest failure of the human imagination - to think of Creation as a *Uni*verse.

Any child in the world will tell us what scientists are only now beginning to admit - which shows us how terribly man's ego can stunt his spiritual intelligence. I have always found the concept of our *Uni*verse laughable hehehe

Dear Lydia, this is a wonderful tribute to the truly underappreciated, thankless job that these brave men of our society do! Not enough people take the time today to share a word of appreciation or thanks for the good things they get in life - but you're one of those who shares both her talents and her heart through these lovely songs!

The lyrics alone are testimony enough to your heart - and maybe that's why your singing is so soulful! There's a hint of Baez , too, in your crooning - which makes it all the more wonderful for me. Baez is a childhood idol of mine.

Thanks for sharing this heartfelt, warm and loving tribute with us, my friend. All the best for your musical journey!

Habari, Kimberley - your short post brought back some infinitely sweet memories from four years back, when I met some African guys (most probably from, Sudan or Nigeria) who were conversing animatedly in this sweet, musical language - and taught me a bit of it.

In Hindi/Urdu, it's "Kya haal chaal hai?" and alternatively, "Khairiyat?".
Arabic - "Kaif al Haale?"
