Marilyn,

I would try:

  • Switching to another browser temporarily. If you are able to access your home page, then this rules out the problem being on Gather's end.
  • In the browser that is giving you trouble:
    • SIGN OUT of Gather.
    • Clear your cache and cookies.
    • Restart the browser.
    • SIGN BACK IN to Gather.
This should resolve the problem for you. If not, please let me know.

Marsha,

There are three places on a group's home page that allow for the addition of widgets, polls, tools and free text. They are:

  1. The narrow "Custom HTML" module which resides in the right-hand sidebar.
  2. The wider "Custom HTML"module which can be activated within the main display segment of the group's home page.
  3. The "Announcement" module, which is technically identical to the wider "Custom HTML" module.

ALL THREE of these modules are simply posts/articles. Therefore, you can format these modules EXACTLY as you would a post...including graphics, embedded videos, photos, colored text, etc. In fact, when you edit these modules you will be presented with the familiar post editor for editing.

That is how the birthday listing was created in the group you link to above. The list can be as long as you require.

FYI, You may enjoy participating in the daily discussions held at the Terms of Service Discussion Center (tos.gather.com). I will begin publishing daily group posts again in the next day or so, and these posts provide a great forum for debating site policies.

Hello Marsha! ...I did respond to you on this subject when you asked about it back on Oct 30. I wanted to know which group(s) had the module you were interested in, and I could walk you through getting it for your group. I didn't get a response from you, so I thought that perhaps you were no longer going to pursue adding this to your group.

Since you are still interested, please point out a group birthday module you like, and I can help you add it to your group. It's quite simple!

I think many group owners try to keep their groups on-topic...at least for the first few weeks. Sadly, not many groups continue doing this consistently beyond this initial 'honeymoon period'.

As for the lack of meaningful discussion today, it's often either feast or famine.

Yes! ...members can comment on your work normally. Plus, you can publish to all of the other groups you would normally publish to. Simply choose your group from the list when you publish your content.

You can also set up your group to allow the community to join the group and view the content, but prevent anyone but you from publishing to it.

I'm using the new design primarily, but will switch occasionally to help other members with problems or questions. Each version has its unique advantages, and so far I don't strongly support one over the other.
