Dont forget the Tweetsie Railroad there.
I have a G scale model of one of their engines and several model freight and passenger cars.
Its the ET&WNC (Eastern Tennesee & Western North carolina) Railroad and it runs ONLY steam excursions!
Quite a sight to see and experience.
They also have a website where you can see video of their engines running.
I lived close to Hickory NC for about a year.
Its one of my favorite states! (been to all 50)

There is one at the village in Dearborn also.
Glad to meet someone who likes trains as much as I do! LOL
I am also into scale model trains, mostly HO and G scale.

I lived in a small town named Sterling on the Sterling Highway on the Kenal Peninsula south of Anchorage.
Which volcano were you close to?
I remember watching small puffs of steam coming from Mt. Redoubt from time to time wondering if it would ever blow.
It did last year!
There was also Mt Iliamna next to it.
