On a post of my own I made a statement that a couple of others here liked ( said I should copyright it ) :
Don't judge God by the company who keeps Him .
This goes along with the fact that it is the followers who cause the problems.
I do agreee that Jesus never used the term Christian -- that was given to His followers later ( perhaps deridingly, perhaps not) and to the best of my understanding, in its original meant ' the messiah folk'.
I may not agree with your entire concept of no religions in the totality of it, but I am so glad when I read someone else thinking outside the box ( the religion box.)//Lonnie

Dexter--- like you, sometime back, in an effort to spread my wings beyone Gather--- I got in on the FACEBOOK phenomenon.
I DO NOT LIKE FaceBook, Sam I am!
I learned the hard way that the majority of people on Gather only ''socialize'' by playing 2 major games there : farmville AND Mafia Wars--- and apparently for those who play, these games are very addictive.
I don't play these games. And as you say, when I send my work to FB from Gather, it only posts a link on my 'wall' as they call it.
When I was debating going to FB, I read something, but ignored it. Now I know it to be true:
it said " FaceBook is the biggest time-waster on the worl wide web. People do spend hrs and hrs there--- playing those 2 games.
Now ask me about my big mistake putting up a twitter page ( another regret.)// Lonnie

being one of those old dinosaurs you mentioned, yet not quite extinct ( although sometimes I might feel that way)---
I hate the excesses i see with ALL this new technology. MY pet peeve is this :
A young couple, male and female, sitting across the table from each other at, say, McDonald's ---cute looking couple--YET, he's got a cell phone up to his ear, as does she...AND THEY'RE NOT TALKING TO EACH OTHER on them, or otherwise. ( yes, I saw this and use it as an example often."
I'm 58 yrs old. Didn't even have a phone ( rotary until I was 12, in 1963.) Now people wear the ear-pieces constantly in their ears, as to not miss a thing. people walk by you talking, and you think they've spoken to you, only to realize they are speaking to whoever's in that strange little ear attachment.
technology-- that thing that was designed to bring us closer together, doesn't really.
we lose too much face to face time with other people . we lose too much solitude and us time with ourselves. Am I out of ranting room? Guess I'd better stop. Thanks. Lonnie Ray Fowler

Dexter-- city cousin goes to visit his farmer cousin in the country.
On getting out of the care the city cousin takes a breath of 'country air.'
He coughs and winces and says : " Cuz-- what's that awful smell? Manure?"
Farmer takes a similar breath and smiles and says " Manure to you. Smells like money to me !!! "

aH--THE SOUND OF A T.V going off air: conelrad!!! And if you turned the t.v. off, someone who fell asleep in front of it says--hey--I was watching that . of course that was during the day when you actually had to get up and make physical contact with the tv to turn it on/off/change channels, etc.

Amy--until 16 months ago, when she became physically unable to work anymore: my wife spent the former 16 yrs as a home-health , certified CNA.
She never liked working in the nursing home/hospital setting because :
my wife is an incredible people person, and she wanted to have the time to be able to spend with her patients as they needed. ( Her day didn't end, until her patients didn't need her anymore.) If they just needed to talk, or to be spoken to, she wanted to take the time to do that.
I once told her-- with your talents and skills, you could make more money doing something else. After about 4 times of hearing the following, I never mentioned it again. And I quote :
GOD PUT ME WHERE HE WANTS ME. THIS IS NOT JUST MY JOB--- IT'S MY CALLING.///

The two cousins, pre-birth . John The Baptizer ,born first. ( Baptizer, one who baptizes--as opposed to John the Baptist, i.e., a denomination.)
Best I recall , John didn't per se --go to church.

Okay--not knowing ( although I wish I did) what prompted this--how about some words of wisdom gained from experience :
1. get rid of all the toxic, negative people/places/things in your life. Even if these forces are familial--you can still find a new way(s) to deal with these people so that you don't carry all the brunt of dealing with them.
2. learn to say no. If you can't learn to say no--learn to say 'let me think about it' then never make a decision, and don't get back in touch about it. They'll eventually get the message.
3. There are some people who will not be pleased no matter how hard you try--so quit trying. ( I've been blessed with several of these people--I truly had lessons to learn: mainly that the problem is theirs, not mine.)
You don't owe people half as much as they think you owe them!!! learn not to be manipulated by guilt --or any other factor.
Write the following on a piece of paper and hang it on the wall: YOUR LACK OF PLANNING AND RESPONSIBLITY SKILLS DOES NOT NECESSARILY CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART. IF YOU HAVE SUCH AN EMERGENCY--- DEAL WITH IT.
If necessary stop being everybody's ANSWER, CRUTCH, OR LOAN DEPT,---because trust me ( from experience) when you need them--they are NOT going to reciprocate.
Take all this from one who suffered the nervous breakdown everybody jokes about not having time to take , and had had to learn a whole new way to live in the last decade since. // And I think I've told you how to get in touch with me. Lonnie
