I also learned that foxes LOVE watermelon....after it's broken open anyway. Everybody needs a little sweetness every now & then, right? :)

I read somewhere that mixing some hot sauce and castor oil in a spray bottle and spraying the mixture all around the garden can keep them out without harming them.
As for me, I bought some clover seed and planted that away from my gardens as "bait"....or maybe more of a decoy. Figured they'd go for the easy clover rather than the hard-to-get garden veggies. I hear they also LOVE parsley but I haven't planted any yet.

We keep going over this and the people that don't "get it" STILL don't. They will continue to dislike guns until they really NEED one. By then it'll be too late and they'll say it's someone else's fault that they were ever in a situation where a gun might have helped.

How many times have we heard someone say, "there's never a cop around when you NEED one"? Well, what does a police officer have that MOST of us don't? A firearm at their side and the training to USE IT.

HEY! I LIKE my "tree rats".
Maybe that's just because I've got foxes, owls, and hawks to feed too. Predators make all the li'l fuzzies keep their heads low.
Of course, I have more black walnuts and shagbark hickories than I could ever hope to use. Darn things are like MISSILES when hit with a mower so the squirrels may really be LIFE SAVERS 'round here. LOL
Besides, I kind of enjoy watching the predators "win" every now & then. Everybody's gotta eat, right?

I can really only answer one of your questions.
Showing up at a healthcare event while openly carrying a firearm is, IMHO, nonsense. No point to it whatsoever.
I value the 2nd Amendment as much as anyone but seriously...what was anyone trying to prove? Was it LEGAL? Yes, I believe it WAS. But was it PROPER? Hardly.

As for your other question: well, I didn't like Bush much either....

While I did not vote for Obama, I at least have respect for the position he was elected to and I would NEVER show up ANYWHERE NEAR him with ANY kind of weapon. To me that just seems wrong.

I think I planted my corn in the right pattern (plants 8 inches apart in short rows 18 inches apart), it's just the timing was off. I tried to treat my two small corn stands like 4 REALLY small stands in order to get a longer harvest. Not good. Not enough pollination going on.
Maybe I'll go back to the even, 12"x12" spacing from last year and just plant the 2 small gardens at different times.

After a quick read of HR 3458, the only term I'm having a little trouble with is "lawful content".

"Lawful content" as defined by whom? The community being served, the community in which the service provider is based, the federal government, the communities through which the lines/signals pass on the way to their final destination, or some other, as-yet-to-be-determined entity/criteria?

Laws affecting any number of things can vary quite dramatically from state to state, county to county, and even town to town WITHIN a given county.
Will service providers have to alter, modify, or (heaven forbid) CENSOR the content they provide so as not to violate the laws of any given community?
If that ends up being the case, I can see internet access providers being regulated to death. I mean, at SOME POINT the legal departments, added servers, censoring programs (which have to be written by somebody and paid for by somebody and monitored by somebody) will make being a service provider no longer profitable. THEN what? Perhaps another bailout/takeover by the government? THEN what do we have? Seems to me that this COULD be the groundwork for a government-controlled internet. It COULD be....

They used to be NAWS (National Auto Warranty Services). U.S. Fidelis is the same company owned by the same two guys and based in the same place. They just changed their name to slow down the 40+ Attorneys General that were/are investigating them.

They bought an entire MALL near Lake St. Louis, MO and that's where their offices are. They also claim to have a Christian teen club there too. Club is called Exodus but I don't know if anything's actually going on there or if it's just a smokescreen.

I did some research on the company and the owners about a year or so ago. Found out a few li'l goodies but nothing really "juicy".

Those warranties are designed to be almost impossible to use. You'd be better off burying your money in a mason jar in the back yard. Seriously.

I think my "moment" actually came from MTV....back when they actually showed MUSIC VIDEOS. It was a Van Halen song called "Right Now" and there was a point in the video where they said, "Right now....your government is doing things you think only OTHER countries do." That got me thinking, "like WHAT?"
Maybe not a good way to start looking into politics but that's how it happened. If nothing else, it got me to ask questions and it made me start to look into why someone would think the government is SO BAD.
I know more NOW than I did THEN and that's never a bad thing.

And yet we resent it when the Gov't treats all of US with that very same philosophy. Granted, we're not all teenagers, but our elected officials (and many UNelected ones) seem to think we're ALL CHILDREN and that THEY know what's best for us.

Oh yes! Let us use every kind of technology available to us to spy on our children. You think they might be a little better at all this than YOU are MAYBE?
Perhaps they have a "bumper beeper" on YOUR car so they know exactly where YOU ARE every minute of every day for a couple weeks or so? It's possible. Maybe they shared the cost with a few friends. Or MAYBE there's a phone app. you're not aware of....

Technology is a double-edged sword my friends. Your children may be using it AGAINST YOU, TOO.

Wow! Politics, religion, and now global warming are all touchy subjects!

Funny how the Faithful can't be swayed and the Atheists can't be convinced. Also funny how, not SO long ago, the scientific community was predicting catastrophic global COOLING being in full swing right about now.
Also funny that the world has gone through warming and cooling periods throughout it's history. I don't know how we can presume to think that that whole process would change appreciably just because WE are here doing what mankind does (which is not altogether good IMHO).
Do I think that humankind can be better stewards of the environment? Absolutely. The problem, I believe, is greed.
Most of us here on Gather (and in other forums) can have an honest debate because WE don't stand to GAIN or LOSE MILLIONS, maybe even BILLIONS of dollars no matter whose side "wins" in the end. The same cannot be said of those at the top of the food chain.
Unless the issue of money can be eliminated, honesty will ALWAYS be in question.

Have you installed a video card or are you just using the on-board video? If you've installed an aftermarket video card then I'd try using the disc that came with the card to reinstall the drivers for it.
You might also try changing the resolution of the monitor...just to see if it makes ANY difference AT ALL. Maybe go from 1280x1024 down to 1024x768 and/or switch from 32-bit color down to 24-bit colors. If none of those changes make ANY difference at all (other than what they SHOULD change), I'd try replacing the cable between the monitor and the tower with a new or known-good one. While doing that, look at the connections to be sure all the pins are present and not bent, broken, or corroded.
If changing the video cable doesn't do any good, then I'd say you have a bum monitor OR your on-board video adapter has gone bad on you.

At this point, I'D bet on the monitor but a different cable is a fairly cheap way to check it out.

Meanwhile, a '92 Geo Metro XFI gets even BETTER fuel economy, seats four, can carry more than a half bag of groceries, AND is dirt cheap (if hard to find).

Ditto for a '79 diesel VW Rabbit.
