Mariana, I'm so glad John Beck knew the title of your book. I had to read through the posts just to make sure someone could help you! I had no idea. Something like that would drive me crazy--looking for a book and not remembering the title. As a matter of fact...it just occurred to me...I've been searching for a book for years--YEARS--I read it when I was a child and loved it.

It's about 3 children who get separated from their parents somehow and their journey to walk home across country. Along the way they have many adventures and learn many lessons. I think all the children were under 12. It was called the Long Way Home, or something like that, but I've never been able to find it under that title. It was probably written in 1950-1970. Ring any bells for anyone?

Nice. At the risk of saying "should", I think we should all be celebrating the work our veterans have done for us, as well as praising the young men and women currently serving, keeping us safe. I thank God for all of them. Thanks for the note.

Crossers by Caputo sounds interesting, and I haven't read Kingsolver's Bean Trees yet. She's been getting a lot of extra publicity lately. Thanks for the snapshots!

Thanks for the review, I'd wondered about this book and what all the hype is about. I probably won't read it though, I don't like tear-jerker endings.

I went back and reread your review, and I am sure I would enjoy this book. I like your style of review--you give the flavor of the book in a rich and appealing format without giving up the entire story.

Right now I'm reading the Bible, Let Go by Sheila Walsh, and just finished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I hope to read the Book Thief next (if I can talk my book group into it). I just read the review of The Coming Storm and like the diversity described in the review. Thanks for writing the review! Wow! The Wrong Mother by Sophie Hannah sounds like a book I'd like to read. I'm going to put it on my reading list. As a mother of a precocious preteen, escaping runs through my mind all the time (although I'd never do it...she'd follow me, find me, let me have it for not being there at her beck and call...sigh...I love her enormously!) Great review, well-written.

"Two of the Deadliest" sounds like an interesting book, and I like Elizabeth George's work. I've been reading more short stories lately, so this is quite timely for me! Thanks for posting the review.

I hand bookmarks out in dental offices, doctor's offices, the post office, etc. too--giving them to a live person. I've also given stacks of them to willing, helpful friends for distribution, one of which has a penchant for leaving them in unique places like amongst the apples in the produce section of the grocery store. When she first told me she did this, I wasn't sure what to think. Actually, I'm still not sure what to think. Would anyone pick up the bookmark, and keep it for further reflection and perhaps a purchase?

Wendy, this might be too late for your bookmarks, but I got mine from Overnightprints.com. They are inexpensive and often have a coupon for free quantities (like 100 bookmarks). Vistaprints.com is also a good site. I'm going to visit those sites today to see if they have "Autographed copy" stickers.

I think you have to develop a thick skin if you are going to be in publishing--whether you are the writer or the editor. Still, gaining a thick skin is not an easy thing to do; it hurts when people write nasty things about you. The trick is to hold your head up, and keep on doing your best work. If you can do that, perhaps it will be easier to ignore the lashbacks.

Publishing is not for the faint of heart; there's always a certain amount of rejection, more so than in many other fields. Posting rejection letters to express anger is not going to help anybody. They should take the feedback and do something positive with it--like learn from it.

Julie, keep being a helpful and constructive editor. Feedback from an editor is a rare and wonderful thing!
