Trish, It sounds like a good idea for you, but will the dogs be okay without the clutter? I'd hate to see you have a beautiful room but then spend all your time carting the dogs to a pet psychoanalyst to help them adjust to their new environment. "It used to be all about me - then something changed ...."

If you are the first person to comment, then it's very uncomfortable to give less thana 10. I find myself giving 9 and 10 most of the time, but I'm harsher on short, off-the-cuff articles. What is your favorite color? Who did you eat lunch with? Those are questions designed to give people a change to make quick comments. They have a place, but I don't think they contribute to the long-term community of Gather. It's the well-written articles with something to say that matter - even if you disagree.

Flit, I did get it done. But as there was another one waiting to be done after that. There's no end in site. I have one due tomorrow (hence posting at 4:33am) that is almost done. Then another next Monday.

You have time for contests? I'm impressed! I look at the writing contests and wish I had the time, but I just don't have the organizational skills.

I'm tempted to try Alli. It's so expensive. It seems like everything I try backfires and ends up making me fatter. Sometimes I wonder if it would be safer just not to try it.

I just checked out his latest book at the library a few days ago. It's sad news. I wasn't a great fan, but I've read most of his work. He was one of those special few who I felt connected to whether I agreed with him or not.

There's no way I could do it. I haven't even been to Japan, let alone have the experience needed. It seems like it would open up opportunities to someone who was in the right time and place.

I just read a great review in Time (Nov 19, 2007). Looks like a definite winner. What's the deal with moving the invasion of Cuba? Rhett fits Cuba somehow. I guess I'll have to wait to find out exactly how.

Beth, DeVry does have benefits, but I would look at community schools first. Unless you want to go into something specialized most programs are available at community colleges for lower costs and they have better connections with the community (ie you can get a job).

One of the catches of online schools is that they offer great finanical aid but it's all loans. You can easily graduate with thousands in loans. Even if you get a great job, it's likely that you will need a second part-time job to cover your student loan payment.

We've started using ALEKS for our students. It can be wonderful, but also time consuming. It does a great job of pinpointing where you need to improve. Surprisingly though, many of my students just want to get out of the class. It's like they don't like math or something. Odd. -)

Wasabi is awesome. Did you have any trouble with customs? I always wonder how much food I can bring home without getting invited into one of those special rooms at the airport.
