You're right, Larry. If you keep treating the symptoms instead of curing the disease, new symptoms will continue popping up to replace the old ones.

I love classic cars. And classy people. By classy people I don't mean those who wear the best designers or know the best wines although I'm sure those things are useful. Classy people are respectful to others regardless of stature or status. My granny was like that.

There are a lot of movies I can't sit through and will either turn them off or walk away if someone else is watching them. Mostly sophomoric humor or horror films... I learn more about the people who are willing to watch these movies than I do by watching them, actually. It is unfortunate, because the conclusions I draw by doing so lead me to avoid people and become even more reclusive.

Sometimes I prefer the insulation of the TV screen and the convenience of being able to pause and rewind at will if needed to the immediacy and uncontrolability of reality. I'd rather watch Steve Irwin (God rest his gorgeous soul) track down dangerous creatures than go trekking through places where I might be attacked by them! And my trip to Peru reminded my how much I appreciate the comforts of home and the good ol' U.S. of A.

I agree with what you said about seeing someone portray a character as opposed to imagining the character yourself... movies are, more often than not, a disappointment after having read the book.

I went on an elephant ride with my oldest son once, when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. So that would be... 20 years ago! Wow. I hadn't realized it was such ancient history. No grandkids yet. At least, none that I know of!

As this story serves to illustrate, it might not be a bad idea to carry an umbrella with you all the time, even when the weather is nice. It can act as a parasol when the sun gets hot, so it's not like they aren't useful for a multitude of purposes. In fact, I'm surprised more people don't consider it a must-have for all occasions.

My aunt used to have goats, and at one place she used to live they had a pair of gay ducks, Stanley and Oliver. Animals are so funny!

We have a kitten that someone sort of brought here and let my daughter get attached to so I guess it's ours now. She is such a character I can only imagine what she'll be like when she's grown up!

I haven't done NaNoWriMo for the past couple of years, but the novel I am seriously working on now was started on my last attempt. (And I still haven't got it up to 50k words! When I say 'seriously' I mean that I fully intend to finish it - some day LOL)

Even within the spectrum each of us has a sort of personal spectrum. For me, it's similar to the bipolar or "manic-depressive" cycle but it can be mitigated by working to make sure I don't over-schedule exhausting activities. Just going to the grocery store can be overwhelming if I go when there are loads of people there to bump into me and disturb my train of thought.

I'm very sensitive to the "vibes" of others but can't always tell where it's coming from or interpret the vibe to make any sense of it. In other words, if someone who's incredibly angry walks by, I'll "catch" their anger and have no idea why I'm suddenly angry.

Now that I recognize it, I can shake it off easier... the more I learn about myself and how I tick the less difficult it is to live within the boundaries I am comfortable with.

That being said, I'm rarely comfortable with boundaries placed upon me by others, or change initiated by others. Only the boundaries I set in place for my own comfort and safety... and change initiated by myself.

LOL I'm bold as a lioness online but I'm actually quite reclusive and don't perform much any more at all, despite the attempts of others to pry me out from under my cozy rock.

If I get that busker's permit that will go a long way toward establishing a schedule to get out there and play on a regular basis. Oh... and a little stumping for the net benefit-based system, too.
; )

Once I get talking about Larry's system I'm anything BUT shy and I can talk about it until I lose my voice. Easily. But that's quite common with autistic people and a subject on which they perseverate. I just prefer to take a pragmatic approach and focus my perseveration upon something that might happen to help us all if enough people demand it.

Maybe I'll keep doing it, then. I love analyzing movies - picked it up from an old flame. He used to piss me off by doing it aloud while I was trying to enjoy a given film... but as an aspiring future writer/producer/director I find it fascinating to dissect scenes and imagine how I might have done it in a different way.

John, I've read a LOT of books in my lifetime, and while I agree they have helped to build my subconscious character and overall philosophy, I don't consciously retain any of the written material the way I do with audio/visual material. I believe that in order to to be fully-rounded we must learn through all means possible. Helen Keller, for example, could not learn through her eyes nor ears so she had to learn via touch, taste and scent.
