I totally agree with your very well worded essay on the dilemma of responding to poetry that does not communicate. It is my personal believe that artists and poets have an obligation to their readers and viewers to provide them with creations that can autonomously communicate meaning...it may or may not be the same meaning as that envisioned by the creator, but it should rise above the baseline of acceptable levels of recognition and achieve a level of consensus of associations for communication to occur. Unfortunately, it seems to me that poets sometimes mistake abstruseness as quality and readers sometimes feel that lack of comprehension must be their fault when a work is presented as being a poem or a piece of art. I think communication is a 50-50 proposition and if communication has not occurred, then it is my fault for not taking care of my half in the first place. Consequently I always welcome feedback...I may or may not act on the feedback, depending on my read of the communication and framework coming back to me from the reader or viewer...but I welcome it.

This is a good article. I place similar value on memory and heritage. November is in the middle of the waning of the year and associated with harvesting and as such is a great metaphor for the similar aspects of lives, families, and cultures, etc.

Yes, Erica, I consider it a haiku. I don't count the syllables or anything. I just try to achieve the simple impact of a haiku.

Hi Rima, this is an actual/virtual 3D form with a particular texture and lighting applied to it within a computer program that does that type of thing. I went through several angles of viewing it, choices of texture, and types of lighting until I hit on this choice. I actually had several versions I saved, but I think I like this version best.

As far as it being an illusion...that depends on how you think about it. It looks as if it is a hard object that can be touched but it isn't and cannot be seen at all unless rendered into a file and presented on a screen or printed on paper, both of which are 2D. On the other hand it actually exists as numbers which are actually stored in the memory of the computer and the numbers and the memory and the computer are real...in which case there is no illusion at all.

Hi Sheila, I like your take on this. These objects are like discoveries for me so I also look at them in the "what have we here?" mode. Being recognizeable but alien at the same time can make things look scary because our minda are not sure what to make of it. The wheel within a wheel of Ezekiel is a metaphor that I am also intrigued with, as I have interests in the Kabbala. I can see that and I can see the waves of associations leading to an inner center, inner journeys of imagination (hence the title), the mother of all cornucopias, etc.

Thanks everyone. Debra, just to be clear, the only photo here is the background clouds. The object that is the subject was rendered in an application and was based on numeric algorhythms. I was able to play with the parameters relative to the form itself and also the texturing and lighting. Since it exists in virtual 3D space, I also could arrange the view and essentially the composition...so this is mostly not a photo.

Hi Robert,
A Yoni is (as I understand it) is a phallic female symbol and hence an image of the feminine aspect of creation. It comes from Hinduism and is frequently represented by an elliptic stone such as the one I have created in the stand. In that context the dragon is a masculine symbol. After I had created this I realized that I had made a type of Yin-Yang combination and therefore also a Tai Chi symbol by implication--Tai Chi of course coming from Taoism. All of which is probably more than you ever wanted to know, but your question gave me the opportunity to elaborate :)

Very nice poem! Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see anything here having to do with Halloween but the Autumn season itself. Meanwhile you have laid out that season appropriately as a metaphor for the stages of one's life and in the Autumn of life one looks up and discovers where you have wandered and opportunities squandered at the same time that there is no clear indication of how it should have been and then the lonely feeling of facing the future in ways that only the individual can determine.

There are several sections I particularly like. One is:

"and where is the map

and compass needle

for winter's iced over

solitary paths . . ."

Another is:
"sun rays darting,

playfully blinding

thwarting a clear view of

one life in progress

riding some unseen force,

dropping dreams

like bread crumbs upon the

gleaming green of summer trails

never glancing back

till now."

Oh I see, I took your meaning wrong. This was meant to be a stand alone and complete poem in the generic haiku syle. I was thinking you were meaning: was it the beginning of my writing something on the spur of the moment on the basis of the Write Image photo prompt...which is what I did. I seldom do things like that.
