These are beautiful photos, makes me want to get there this year. I live in MA and have never made my way to Newburyport or Plum Island either. So much to explore in New England.

Very true, I agree with your logic here. I find it strange this other planet speaks english. Or at least prints English words on their green cards. Perhaps in some feeble attempt to gain legal status using a fraudulent greencard? Cheap generic green plastic was probably not the best choice, plus the orange jumpsuit with the words ILLEGAL ALIEN printed across it may draw suspicion. I am impressed these aliens from another planet have mastered outer space travel over presumably great distances... but clearly need help making up fake IDs.

I think Papelbon will be his own toughest critic. He is incredibly intense. I picture him going into some serious bouts of depression. He is stuck with the whole off season to sulk. I thought the Sox had game 3 wrapped up and never thought Papelbon would blow it. But that is the fun part about baseball. The last minute drama that brings pain or joy.

I wouldn't blame the series on Papelbon. The Angels were hitting well the whole time, the Sox waited until game 3.

That clip is really sweet. I like how everyone is overacting just a bit because they assume they are on jumbotron or TV or something. So it has this surreal sitcom feel to it, yet mixed in with sweet genuine expressions.

He could have used the term Jackleg... I heard that from a friend and thought it was a great term. I wonder if the whole Kanye thing was a publicity stunt for Leno, Kanye, Swift and Obama. They have been working together as a jazz quartet behind the scenes.

actually those pick up lines are from a notebook I would take around to parties in my early 20's. I'd ask people what pick up lines they knew and got over 100 unique ones. Also was a great way to meet people, but I never picked up any chicks that way... Guess I was too shy.

It's great for getting the paper and holding the baby. The only problem is you have to be young, fit, sexy and desperate for paid commerical work like the people in the video.

I've watched this clip before and really like what he has to say. I love comedians and entertainers who have some commentary on life/culture/society. I think this is a great topic Tom, one that my wife and I (and some friends) talk about often. Perhaps too much, seems like I spend all my time talking about this with my wife, instead of watching TV.

Personally I have everything to gain if our country shifts into a "simpler" life. By simpler I mean poorer basically. Poorer in terms of material things, life conveniences, granite countertops and money sitting there for the future. I'd really like to work in some way in my lifetime at connecting myself and others with nature, with the rhythm of life.  But it is just too damn expensive to live our modern life, so there is not much room to experiment. I can a little because I don't have to support kids and because I keep my expenses low. But I'd like to experiment ALOT. And most people I talk to feel the same way.

Everyone has some passion behind their routines. Someone is into films, someone is really sweet and caring, someone loves the outdoors and local food. Yet we are all so caught up in running around that we never make these desires a core part of our lives.

I've spent years trying to run around less and live more. I've had times of success when food tastes better, my breathing is deeper and I feel calm and compassionate. But most of the time I feel like I am running around and my body is a bit sore in all sorts of places. I suppose I am hyper aware, which is a curse and a blessing.

I do think the more people wake up, the more they can't just accept the core routine of our culture. Technology can be a part of a simpler life. Technology is neutral and not to blame. People need to learn to control their use. Binge emailing, binge eating, binge drinking. When I'm not content, I find myself binging somehow.

Waking up is hard though. I had some help from a spiritual mentor for a few years who helped me through a really hard year. I learned so much from him about unconditional love. He wasn't perfect, I'm definitely not either. But he had ways of opening the body (happened to be Thai massage) that woke people up. And amidst that there would be moments when my ego was washed away, and I felt true contentment. My breathing would change, my voice would resonate, my eyes would be lit up with spirit. But all of that is drained so quickly once you enter life again. And it is devastating to feel that and lose it so fast. It just takes practice though, and focus and dedication.

I suppose I rambled a lot for a comment. But I do have a great optimism in people. We all want to feel fulfilled, and we all distract ourselves from our unrest somehow. I think circumstances are changing and people are reflecting more on what matters. As more people shift their priorities and wake up a little bit, then a movement will swell. I don't think we need to abandon all we have and head to the now virtually non-existent wild. But I do see change emerging, in myself at the very least. And I think it is a change people desire and will embrace over time. Or it will just be forced on us in some great chaotic shock ;)

$9? It must be a promo gimmick, or just a low price for initial PR. I definitely wouldn't take my life in my hands for a $9 flight. Some lunches cost more than that. I'd also wonder what crazy corners they were cutting to get that price. Unfair wages? Dumping chemicals here and there? Working off some impossible budget?

It's great to see you will be sailing! My wife took the classes there and really enjoyed it. They also have a kayak rental area further down the river. It's weird that I have grown up in Massachusetts, yet have never sailed.
