Tina, Many things have changed in Hollywood, but many things always change there. At one time, Hollywood was the center on innovation - color, sound, stereo and more. A lot of today's films are simply geared to an undiscriminating audience, but there are some very good films coming out. My advice would be to find a reviewer/critic whose taste you come to trust and follow their lead. Best of luck.

Hi DD, Pretty much in agreement of 500 DAYS. Great leads, nice construction, but I disliked that "resolution" in the park. It would have been so much better if that never happened. It doesn't happen in real life and having that lingering question of what happened makes future relationships more interesting. But the stars were engaging. I am a fan of both.

Piper, I accepted the idea he was a kid up until three films ago, but after six films, I am still waiting to see glimmers of the great wizard to be. The arc of is learning is too long and fraught with substance. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the films (except this last one). But assuming he is 17 in this latest release, where is his leadership? Where is accrued knowledge? If Dumbledore wasn't there to bail him out of all these situations, he'd be toast.

Dena, I agree. My mom dies back in 2000 & I still would love to talk to her.
Elizabeth, without knowing your mom, it's hard for me to say. I do know moms love stuff from the heart. Since she's recovering from oral surgery, why not think visual? Maybe make a personal video Mother's Day card? Tell her a story about a special day you spent together.

Of course Obama should speak. The "your either fer us or agin us" mentality is destructive. Sadly, too many people on both sides of the debate profit from their shrillness. This country was founded on finding the common ground. Let's keep that in mind.

DOUBT was a good film with strong performances from the leads. What mazed me the most was how Amy Adams held her own besides two strong actors like Hoffman and Streep.

Tina, It has little to do with Hillary. It has everything to do with free speech, influencing elections and big money. This SC decision will affect elections in our democracy. Citizens should not shy away from important topics.

DD, Good to hear from you again. I'll check out your review, but I wanted to let you know I sold my X-Men, Silver Surfer and (sigh) ECs to finance the down payment on my house. I hope your sale is for something as worthwhile.

Regarding WATCHMEN, I fear it will open huge and then drop precipitously in the second week. The film is for fans, but won't cross over into the main stream. If the audience doesn't comprehend an alternate universe, I doubt they will understand how groundbreaking WATCHMEN is.

Working in theaters most of my life gave me ample opportunity to suck down soda and M&Ms. For me, I just can't give thinks up, I need to use a substitute. For diet soda it was seltzer water. For M&Ms, raw almonds. It works for me. Whatever works for you is what you should stick with, but Pam, you look pretty good to these old eyes.

Donna, what resonates with the film is how Randy's life mirrors Mickey Rourke's. The crying scene was all him. I had a chance to interview the director about the film. This is a small film which shows a side of life we normally don't see.

I once saw THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE in a bar where one of the scenes from that movie was shot. It had changed names, but it ws the same place. There is a word for that occurrence, seeing a film where it was shot. Does anyone know what it is?

Hey, Digital Dog, nice piece.
What I love about Slumdog is the script. Beaufoy took Q&A and turned it into an exciting piece of writing. I interviewed Danny Boyle and he knew by the 15th page he was going to make the film.
