I am wondering if the definition of a lie gets harsher depending upon which side of it you are standing on.....? No matter what the 'intent'...if one realizes they have been deceived (another word for lie), it undermines trust in a big way whether the lie was told to 'protect' feelings or to simply 'save face' or be manipulative or opportunistic.

Tragic incident indeed. However, I wonder if we Americans would be so upset about it if it had been someone from another country? Why is it that we think we are immune to being 'attacked' on our own soil or someplace else? Look at the havoc we create in the name of democracy so everyone can be like us? The Olympics, barring unfortunate incidents (which happen at EVERY event), are an opportunity for human healing and a melding and celebration of the myriad of beautiful cultures that makes living on this Earth so amazing - tragedies included.....

Wow. Great insights and shared thoughts. I'd have to say the sentiment that speaks to me the most, after 49 years of learning, is that hard heartedness hurts everyone. We must forgive with love and compassion (for our sake as well as theirs....) but not necessarily have to put up with the things others do, or what we perceive them to do, to us. What we put out into the Universe only comes right back at us...

Being a public school educator and an advocate of keeping the arts in schools, I SO enjoyed reading your article using your Mia as an example of us 'bigger children' needing to keep connected to our inner child of play and creativity. Thank you for sharing your family with us!

Yes. When I was in the Brownies in the 60's. I was on the Abusiyaya Show (I know I did not spell that right but it was like a Mr. Rogers with magic back in South Carolina - local channel.) I told a joke: What is black and white and read all over? A newspaper. Or maybe it was a penguin rolling down a hill.....dang it - the memory....
