Thank you very much.  You are in the dusty archives.  I am not very active any longer on here, but miss it.  I really love this poem.  I was so pleased to have received a nice response.  I still love Hawkeye, still feel sorrow about our ongoing wars, and still turn on MASH frequently to soothe my wounds.

i enjoy the image of ' the lightning in your eyes' and of being lulled and surrendering. attraction, chemistry, that unique kind of sunshine that only shines on you in that person's presence. we lust after these feelings.
yes, different for you.... but it is good for you to stray from any 'consistencies', every now and then. to flex other muscles. and mostly it is good to write what is needing to be written.

whisper to me softly in my solemn retreat....
this whole poem makes me kind of gasp. you wrap your arms around dispair and anguish. and offer it to us like pearls pried from the clams pained shells. thank you.

"This is where the blues band plays your tune.
I wasn’t coming to see you but they altered time,
Now there’s a hole in the river where I lost my mind.
Please excuse my manners while I inconvenience your life.
I was lost in some other time where you weren’t living."

Since I've been gone a long time from Gather, I perused some of my old friends posts to see what I might want to read -- it was the first line that I copied that made me choose this poem. For odd reasons, I can really relate to those lines. "I wasn't coming to see you but they altered time.." uhhh, right in my gut... I know that line/feeling, from the inside out. And I hear that blues band that plays 'your tune'. Oh so well. I also feel enlightened and entertained by reading through the comments and your 'conversations'. You always do that so swimmingly, Wade. And so graciously. Love, jealousy, anger, abuse, lonliness, estrangement, pain..... love..... circles. At least you transform it into a very expressive, perhaps therapeutic, art form. And for that, I am enriched and grateful.

Not bad at all for 82, at the time! I came from very fine genes. Mom always had class, and created it from Goodwill and the Salvation Army! She could sew like the wind and make gold from straw!

Barbara, your comments are bringing tears to my eyes, and amazed words from my mom. I am on the phone with her, reading it to her. She says you are after her heart and she is so amazed that you could read her words and 'get it' and 'see' what she sees - and was trying to describe. It means the world to her! And I thank you for sharing! Mom says this is very exhilarating!

I feel it. Have felt it. Miss it. Found myself...but one still needs to give in to these feelings straight from the deepest part of the heart. When someone else knows and speaks the language of our own heart.

Shoe art, hmm? My mom loves shoes, stylish and sassy shoes. Me too, but I have always been so practical in my 'shoe' department. Starting with moccasins! But, your shoes are cool. I also really liked the 'motion' drawings. Especially 'meatball motion'. Glad to see you are still having fun, being wildly creative.

Well, hello Virginia! You have a very pretty name! I have been away from Gather for a year, and one of the first things I wanted to do on returning, was read your latest post ! Glad to 'see' you again. How hard it would have been to lose your mom so early. I am grateful to still, even at 53(!) still have my sweet mama! I am sure you took many intuitive and heartfelt clues from your own mother, into your life as a mom and grandmother! Happy Mother's Day Elsie.

Purple and violet irisis have always been one of my absolute favorite flowers. Where I live now, it is hard to grow them. I go down into denver and feast on them everywhere this time of year! And I agree they are usually one of the easiest to grow! Most places. Thanks for the info!

My mother ended up being an exquisite seamstress and made most of our clothes. She could look at someone's dress or suit and go home and make it without a pattern. Or alter something she already had, and turn it into a new outfit. She was very resourceful and creative that way.
I love hearing how she first got 'desires to achieve, or own' certain things that I had never understood before I heard these little stories.

Yes, the little grasshoppers were doomed! And Mom usually wouldn't hurt a flea! But, I loved how the kids found ways to entertain themselves without fancy means, or store bought toys. And at that time, there were grasshoppers everywhere. Again - thanks so much for your comments!

thank you for your comments Linda. When I posted the earlier stories and poems that my mom wrote, she was surprised and giddy about receiving comments. I think she tells her stories beautifully. Was hoping to share 5 or 6 comments with her. But, it is hard when you have been away for so long, as I have.

Cheryl, I love your story. It reminds me of so many stories my mom told me about my great grandmother. Who I got to know briefly. She was the backbone of our family. I especially love the part about the gardens and flowers and "loving the poeple she left me".

You cover such vast terrain with such exact description. You yield a scalpel. This poem flows with pain and the nature of addiction. So stark. Openly speaking the secrets that everyone else around them knows and sees. The trap....the vicious circle...the need.
I too am glad you are back and so on top of your poetry game. Great as usual!

Zara, I absolutely love this !!! It made me smile and realize how I feel when I look at new journals. Though I too often settle for the least expensive, I always handle those journals with tender love and awe and feel the anticipation and the exhileration of possibility that waits in each one. I never thought to express it before. You are a very talented writer and I love your comparison of the two books written by lovers. Different but on the same topic. The differences are to be cherished and celebrated! It took me a life time to see that. You are a smart yourng woman. Keep writing. And thanks for the smiles today.
