That does tend to happen when one can't formulate an effective argument to a counterpoint.

I don't disagree that GWE has been hit or miss with many of its member editors. However, there are people trying to keep the flame alive. You're painting with a broad brush here, and getting a lot of that paint on yourself as a result.

So you're paying up to $450 a month for a writer to discuss which actress is better in a pole-dance, or the relative attractiveness of their tattoos? Good job maintaining quality, there.

What's the word on Gather holding another contest to get a poet or serious writer a publishing contract?

I feel a little odd, stealing some of the thunder from James and Thomas. Eep!

James told me he had the first stanza written and presented it to me. As soon as I read it, I jotted down the reply. It took about a minute? It wasn't a conscious thing, I suppose, I didn't realize the deeper ties between the two parts until after we'd posted it here and others began to comment on it.

I'd like to be a consciously good poet, and far more consistent than I really am, but it did work out in this instance. :)

'Biogenesis' is probably the sentimental favorite of our collaborations. We've only done a few others, so far. One is a triolet, on one of the Honest Poetry Critique challenges and the other is 'On the Occasion of Our Anniversary', which was posted in July of this year on James' page. I'd link them for you but I just took some cold medicine and my brain is shutting down. I'll be back tomorrow to remedy that!

This is an absolutely stunning review and comparison, Ann. I've gone ahead and stolen that naughty seashell, you never know when you might need one!

I know it's been firmly established that I have a considerable bias towards James as a poet, I have to agree that Thomas is excellent at what he does. It was a joy to read this. Yes, it's an analysis, but it was in no way dry or clinical. Terrific article.

Your prompts never fail to deliver, Atticus. You really do challenge people with them, to step outside of the creative tunnel vision that is so easy to fall into. And that poem... James described what I took from it. Very, very enjoyable, the perfect Sunday read (yeah, I'm a little late. ;) )

It's funny, this prompt popping up right now, because I was just thinking about this. My "first love" in the 7th grade at Ramstein Junior High School was a young man who wrote and recited a full-length sequel to "Casey at the Bat". It matched perfectly in both rhyme and meter, and as he recited this poem he'd obviously labored over, I fell hard. I never did confess my puppy love to him but since then-- and here is the point of my story ;) -- I have had a serious soft spot for gentlemen who write excellent poetry. That's been one of the few continuous threads in the weird tapestry of my life.

Now to consider how to put that in a poem.
