Ain't that the truth.

When I started writing, I was such a newbie. I knew so very little. I was involved peripherally with several things which taught me much but even then, I knew you didn't pay big bucks to get your MS pubbed. Even things that looked good on the surface. I'm a bit of a skeptic. Comes with age and business experience. So when doubt, I did what I've always done. Research.

Having said all that, while I don't want to go non-traditional at this point, I do believe POD technology is the way of the future and I'm seeing more and more NY houses embraces it.

For Traditional publishers to survive, they're going to have to incorporate the new technology and many of them are. Random house to name one, HQ has too, but of course their tie with ASI, sigh, is not a good business platform for their brand or writers. Nathan made a comment, I appreciated Nathan Bransford's opinion and I happen to agree with it:

"...in principle I don't think publishers facilitating self-publishing is necessarily such a bad thing. However, there should be complete transparency, fair pricing, total disambiguation between traditional publishing arms and self-publishing arms, and every good faith attempt made to educate writers about the difference between the two. This industry obviously needs new revenue streams, and provided that the publisher's program is genuinely nonexploitive and transparent I don't see the problem, and I don't see why publishers should continue to cede ground to self-publishing companies when they have every capacity to provide the same service. It just has to be done correctly.

I've been sleeping on and off all day. My body decided it needed more than a couple tortillas--it sounded good at the time and was good--and a small bowl of cereal, which also very good. And the inner monster was crying out for appeasment so I had to have some coffee, ah heaven. Note to self, do not deprive oneself of coffee. I also had a piece of chicken. So far so good.

So, anyone thinking of a topic of the next thread?

One thing I have noticed, with the preoccupation with the HQ debacle the blogs I read today, were strangely devoid of readers. Guess where everyone is? Lololol!

Well she had a disclaimer on there a little while ago, in a newer article for today (impressive considering her laptop is kaput) that this is her PERSONAL blog, not a *company* blog and it's only HER opinion.

"I am not acting as a “representative” of Harlequin, as some commenters have indicated. (My disclaimer on the right-hand side says this clearly.) This is my personal blog filled with my personal opinions about publishing, an industry I care deeply about."

I'm sure, if HQ is savvy, they have memo-ed everyone, to take care on commenting on this brouhaha, or not to comment on it at all.

I'm loving today with sunshine and temps at 63. Especially after 4 days of 40's and rain. I sat outside for awhile in the sunshine, and soaked it all in. Sunshine is healing, :-)

Thanks Wendy, Yah, Dan's bringing home fried chicken from our favorite chicken place and it's NOT KFC. Says he'll cook up some rice (we're rice eaters from way back) if I get some energy, I might make up a batch of biscuits. Then again, might just buy the dang things and bake them. Sis is coming to get me and drive me in so I can get the Danes some food and pay the mortgage, so we can stop at the grocery store too.

Wow. I'd love to be a fly on the wall as Harlequin Corporate discusses this. My word. I know many Harlequin pubbed authors and they're not happy about this at all and they're worried about their futures too. SRWA goes even further than RWA.

Be interesting to see if HQ breaks the contract with ASI

True, Judi. While I love gifts, the practical ones like this, unprompted, says more about a man's heart than flowers. I guess you could call it love in action. :-)

The baby, Nikki, is doing the stop and go thing. But Deanna can feel she's moved much lower and all the stretching she's doing. She's doing the clean my house thing, right now.

I crawled out of bed this morning, feeling marginally better. Dogs are also great alarm clocks with only a one hit snooze button. But I have to tell you, I absolutely dreaded seeing my kitchen. Last night was enough to curl my hair. Truly a wreck. But what can you do when you are in dire need of coffee, but gird the loins and walk in to find...

A clean kitchen. WTF? Picture me dumbfounded, jaw to the floor.

Dan not only cleaned the kitchen, but had a pot of coffee ready to go, requiring only a push of the button.

Jake had picked up the bathroom, (normally it looks like a bomb went off when he goes in there. No conception of what a hamper or towel rack is) not a towel in sight on the floor, all his clothes in the hamper. Furthermore, there was a note from Dan, don't worry about cooking dinner, I'll get something on the way home. Rest.

Being wimpy of late, it brought tears to my eyes. Awww.

So, I went to bed early this evening. Still feeling like crap, especially after playing Dear Abby, um, Sia. Solved the problems of the world, well let her clear her chest, so to speak. Then said NO, to darling niece who wanted me to keep the Celtic Sprite for awhile. And your husband is where? And your mother? Selfish? Me? no, just setting healthy boundaries. Sheesh. Baby will probably be born tomorrow sometime. Contractions stop for awhile last night and have resumed off and on this afternoon. Lot of stretching going on. Each bout is stronger.

So, as I was saying, I slithered into bed for a late nap and didn't care at that point whether I go up or not. I woke up several hours later, sh!t I have a blog tomorrow. Heavy groan...Love my author but I didn't want to get up and see the mess my guys made of the kitchen, didn't want to do a blog. Yah, I'm whining.

Caridad Piñeiro has an intriguing new novel out called Sins Of The Flesh and I loved the premise when I saw it. I was fascinated by the idea of genetic engineering when Bionic Woman was popular, many years ago. As a kid, I remembered thinking, wow, wouldn’t that be cool if enhancements were possible?

Unlike poor Jamie Sommers, in Caridad’s books, her heroines get to have a happy-ever-after.

Question: If you could would you? If you could mix up some genes to make the ultimate human/plant/animal, what would you mix-up and why?

Nice to see her promoting, but I rarely pay attention to ads. But that's just me, unless I'm looking for guests and then I'll look, otherwise they're just color spotches on the page.

I knew about texting but hadn't used it much until I went to work for Kodak. My boss lurved texting and then along came child with texting so I had to learn it, lol!

Calling is faster, IMO
