Yes, Fall is the right time to prune because the trees are going to sleep. Brian says that if you prune in the spring, then the trees pour all their energy into growing back what you cut off.

Yes, I find I have to have a sense of humor about the mice. They insist on nesting next to the motor in the lawn mower. If I forget to clean out the nest every time, it starts on fire when I mow the lawn. I can either laugh or get mad, and a grown woman screaming at a mouse is pretty funny.

Thanks Korak, I don't always breeze along, and it's very easy for me to be positive, since it's my family's farm and I have a day job to get along. I sometimes worry about the farmers, and the weather, and the crops, and the local ecology....

Dexter, Ok, I admit to vacuuming the ladybugs in my house, but they aren't eating aphids there, anyway. How do you get them to go outside? I never spray, and encourage them when I can--just don't really like them in the house.

Nana, I don't. Nobody would ever accuse me of "keeping up." :)

Dexter, I love what you said: A predator does a messy and frightening job of culminating a chickens life. We can make use of them for our nourishment and prevent the raising of one more factory bird. That's exactly my feeling about it.

I put them in a crock pot with some veggies and have a stew. My first experience with harvest yielded very little meat; they were mostly bantams after all. It was savory, though.

I'll echo that, Dexter.

Your narrative makes so many great points. Clearly we need an overhaul of our health care system. Your story highlights people's greatest fears about "socialized medicine" and how we do need to be careful that the new system is not like the old VA. But it also shows that those nightmares don't have to be reality. Thanks for a thoughtful post.
