I met my husband because we both worked at the same university -- he worked upstairs, I worked downstairs -- and every time he came down to use the copier we'd flirt :-)

I met my husband when we were both working at a university. He worked in an office upstairs and would come down to use the copier in the office where I worked. He would always make a point to talk to me when he came down and I thought he had the prettiest eyes and a nice sense of humor. But he never asked me out. I waited and waited. It took him the entire summer before he worked up the nerve to ask me out -- finally! We have been together ever since :-)

There are a lot of things to do in Saint Louis (where we live) and we've been exploring a lot of them this summer. Some of our favorites:

Going up to the top of the Arch -- it's a wonderful view and the funny little cars you ride in to get up there make the kids giggle.
The Butterfly House -- my daughters favorite because she loves when the butterflies land on her arms and head!
The Zoo -- which is free and has lots of neat animals.
The Art Musuem -- also free and has a cool indoor fountain that my son loves to makes wishes with whatever pennies he can find in my purse :-)
The Dog Musuem -- where we learn a great deal about dogs in general and they have special "guest" dogs that visit periodically.
The Boathouse -- where you can eat lunch and then rent a paddleboat to float around on the lake.
Suson Farm -- a really fun park with farm animals, a playground and fishing ponds.
Mastadon Park -- another fun park with trails, a playground, and a creek where the kids love to try and catch crawdads.
The Museum of Transportation -- all about trains which thrills my son and they even have a miniature train you can ride.
The Magic House -- lots of fun activities.
The City Musuem -- we don't go often because it is more expensive then other places but it has some neat things to explore.

Those are just some of the fun things we enjoy around our town :-)

I've had several favorite dogs -- including my childhood favorite Benji. Yes, I named him after the Benji in the movies that I grew up watching :-) He was a Shetland Sheepdog and the best friend I had during many difficult childhood moments. I miss even now and that was many, many years ago. Right now, we have a very sweet dog that we rescued. Her name is Lady and she is a Brittany Spaniel mix -- not sure what she is mixed with but she looks mostly like a Brittany. She has some issues -- she doesn't like other dogs -- and I suspect she had a rough puppyhood -- but she is good with the kids and the cats (the cats are less then thrilled with her but they have reached a truce) and she has become a member of our family :-)

Hi Karen -- it's Laumeier Park (not sure I spelled that correctly though) in Saint Louis, MO. It's a great park full of modern sculptures and lots of room for the kids to run!

I'd really like to visit Ireland some day and see where my great-grandmother came from -- I promised my grandmother I would go since she was never able to go herself. So I have to go someday although it doesn't seem like it will be anytime soon since we can't afford it. But maybe someday, I'm not giving up yet :-)

My other dream is to start my own business and have it be successful -- but since I don't know what I want to do yet that is still in the unfocused dream stage :-)

This summer we are focusing on books that fit with each kids interests -- which means dinosaurs and horses for Alex (including stories about famous horses like Seabiscut) and robots and trucks for Mac. We also read a lot of kids fiction as well and take part in the summer reading programs. I am also fitting in chapters from the first Harry Potter book for my daughter as she really wants to read it now that she has seen the first movie :-)

We are certainly being much more careful with our budget this summer -- not going out of town on a vacation, doing more free things like library events and things close to home like the art museum and the zoo which are both free.
