What it has always boiled down to, for me, is doing the next right thing is always the best path.
There are certain patterns of living that have become clear to me over the years. Doing the next right thing is uncomplicated, logical and necessary. It benefits everyone.
Not doing the right thing is convoluted, illogical and ridiculous.
For instance, lying. If you lie about a particular thing, you always need to remember that you told that lie. You have to use the variant on truth that you have created when dealing with the recipient or when addressing the subject. In order to justify that variant, you need to keep building on it.
Bottom line, all those behaviors are too time consuming. I'd rather contemplate my navel.
Blessed be.
