I must admit, I am a Lou Dobbs fan. I was also a fan of Tim Russert and Tony Snow. I'm hoping Lou is around a lot longer.

I don't always agree with Lou Dobbs, but many times his segments do seem to suggest that he knows what's bugging me. He doesn't seem to try to prop up George Bush. He's bad mouthed McCain and Obama. I think he makes more of an effort than most to be independent.

MSNBC is Obama central. Fox is so far Right it gets down right odd. CNN simply gets on my nerves. So, I look more for certain shows and hosts. I'm a Lou Dobbs fan.

Juan, I always enjoy your articles. I'm quite sensitive about being stereotyped, unfortunately. To be honest, I can be guilty of the crime myself. It's often when I feel very strongly about an issue, that I'm most likely to become an offender myself. So, I do understand.

I have a limited knowledge of Spanish. I took a couple of classes in high school, but that was such a long time ago that I'd no doubt only get myself into trouble if I opened my mouth in a less than sympathetic crowd. With my husband and one of my sons, I also tried learning Mandarin Chinese and Thai with a small community class.

Our middle son, who was about 8 at that time, enjoyed these classes thoroughly. Although sure to start controversy, I think parents should consider encouraging their children to be fluent in a second language. In my house, I'm encouraging Spanish as a concentrated second language. I don't know what the country will sound like when my my youngest son is an adult. I have noticed that we're not pressing 1 for German, 2 for Chinese, 3 for Japanese, and 4 for something else. Even here in the south there are people from these cultures but they apparently have felt compelled to learn English. But, since we are pressing a number for Spanish, I think our nation is turning into at least a "bilingual" nation.

There are people who speak many more languages here in the US, of course. But, I think learning Spanish is going to be the most functional for me. So, surely my children could only benefit if they learned Spanish.

Why is it always open season on southerners? Have you ever noticed that some of the main people who supposedly support tolerance immediately pounce with generalizations when they spot an offense by one or a few southerners. Every one gets a good laugh and it's deemed acceptable behavior.

But I guess to the Louisiana crowd that is all good and well, but only if you do in English.

I know people from Louisiana (born & raised) that speak fluent French, Spanish, and other languages.

Now many school officials and residents of this small minded community

Do we really know that this entire community is small minded?

Juan, you made an excellent point with your article. I'm just a little disappointed with the ease you displayed in stereotyping an entire community and state.

Okay, so he spent seven years as a state senator and three years in the US Senate. So, he's a very experienced voter. As state senator he said, "yeah", "nay", and "present". Now, I'm sure he had many people spending many hours researching the nuances of these issues, but ultimately his job was to vote. He sponsored bills. I would have preferred someone who has run something. In my opinion, a governor would've been ideal. I already know the next comment. George Bush was a governor and look at the mess he got us into. I would still have liked someone who has that experience. A governor is someone who has managed. Governors have to make hard decisions on managing their economy, etc. This was my article. This is my opinion.

I guess that was the arrogance of Obama. One item. Anything else, since that is your title.

Tell me more about Obama that makes him such a wonderful choice. He's better than McCain. But, I would think any candidate would be.

What about the arrogance of McCain? I am not saying there is nothing arrogant about these two. However, that was hardly discussed. All I've read is the list a pros and cons. Is having cons arrogance?

McCain has been knocking around Washington for 30 years. In my opinion, he's had plenty of time to make any change he wants --or to at least have compiled a record that indicated the direction that he felt the country should go in -

I think its arrogant of him, at "darn" near 80 to suggest now that if he picks up another hat, he'll solve our problems. He's another experienced voter, though. If Obama's seven years as a state senator, and three as US senator is enough experience, then McCain's brimming over with it by your benchmark.

Is having cons arrogant?

No, having a limited amount of pros and asking us to overlook your cons as you reach for the highest office in the land is arrogant?

Sorry, he's been on the scene about a minute. Remember, the guy isn't very old. Let me go ahead and put out this disclaimer: You do NOT have to spend your time "sprucing up" Obama for me. More than likely, this is the candidate I will vote for...but it's eyes wide open.

I think Obama is genuinely a good man. Me personally, I don't get those vibes with McCain. But, that's just me. I also think its a very good thing, not many people were paying attention to the "limited" time that he was on the political scene. I personally would prefer not to see any more Jeremiah's, liberal bombers, shaky real estate deals, etc. As far as I am concerned, let his past rest in peace.

2nd Disclaimer: You do NOT have to defend any of the items in my list. My list for McCain is even longer.

Clark & Sandy: Quality versus Quantity is a good point. But, what if additional quantity would have proven less quality later on?

Sorry, I'm voting both of these "fellas" are large on ego. But, I'm willing to admit that it may be that anyone who seeks this position would have to have quite a bit of ego to pursue it.

For instance, let's take McCain. McCain likes to remind all of us that his mother has lived to be XX years old. This is great. But, this simply reminds me that McCain himself is no spring chicken. He extols that he has ALWAYS placed his country before himself. That's what I've been hearing this week. So, am I to believe that a man that ALWAYS puts his country before himself seriously believes that there was not ONE younger man or woman as least as qualified as he to be President. Think about it. That takes ego.

I personally think he should have disqualified himself (for love of country and all).

As for Obama...well, the argument is similar (swap age for experience). I'm just saying it takes a lot of gall to run for this office, and it seems these two have more than most.

Perhaps that's what it takes to be a politician generally.

It does leave out a lot. I'm sure its not fair to judge this man's entire career by a few quotes. I think Obama was right. Words do matter. His pastors words were hurtful. I know they weren't Obama's words.

Something I've noticed is that now it seems the warmest part of the day is late afternoon or evening. When I was growing up, it seemed like noon was the hottest part of the day. I could be wrong. It's just how I remember things.

Hmm...I'm fairly sure both the mother and the stranger are at fault. Greed and the desire for free or cheap labor created a fertile environment for the continuation of it. I don't know if America's appetite will ever lessen for free or cheap labor. We're a nation unable to learn from its mistakes.

As for why so many blacks are converting to Islam -- Islam is the world's second largest religion, so more than blacks are converting.
